Re: Porsches Getting Bigger!
I've had a Macan S since new, >6years/55k miles, and I still like it overall - I'm not knocking it, simply think the shape is not dissimilar. Agree the Maxi was poor, particularly underpowered even for then, shocking gearchange and drab plain interior, judging by a few my friends had, not unreliable...

Re: Porsches Getting Bigger!
Funnily enough I've always thought the shape/profile of the Maxi was quite similar to the Macan, if the bonnet sloped a little more and the corners were more rounded it would be even closer. Not that I was a fan of the Maxi, another BL great idea poorly executed (I was a Rover SD1 Vitesse man, super...

Re: Macan as a family car
That's the one. Quick for its day (think it was the fastest production hatchback at the time @ 135mph) and handled extremely well for its size, I suppose due to the light engine and relatively low centre of gravity. Did very well in the BTCC and similar in the early to mid 80's. Great looking car to...

Re: Macan as a family car
Mark 3 Granada was a commodious barge too............... Indeed it was, a pal of mine had one. Interestingly in hatchback form it was the same length as the Macan at 184 inches but 5 or 6 inches narrower at 70 inches. Where has all that space gone? IMHO not a great looking car, hugely preferred the...

Re: Macan as a family car
Also we had a Panamera as a loan car for a couple of week s at the start of this year - my 7 year old loved the extra space in the rear and having a proper independent heating system - still regularly asks me to trade the Macan in for one!

Re: Macan as a family car
The Maxi probably has a larger interior despite probably being c. 2 feet shorter and 1 foot narrower (I realise crash protection counts for some of that but....)
Hate to say it but there's some similarities in shape/design even if the Maxi got there 45 years earlier!

Re: Macan as a family car
As a comparison v. our Mk5 R32 Golf: Distance from rear seat to PCM screen = 150cm Macan & 150cm Golf (no difference) Distance from front door to front door (inside) = 154cm Macan v. 146cm Golf so 8cm difference, less than 1.5 inches per person. Therefore negligibly larger cabin. However the boo...
