I wouldn’t want an xr3i anyway !!!

Welcome OP

S will be fine for you.

For both our old 981 and current Macan I just specced them to GTS spec pretty much because the GTS wasn’t available at order

Loved both of them !

E39 M5. Gutted that I didn’t buy a low mileage LeMans blue one recently to add to my stable. I’ll keep looking….
Yes, E39 series BMWs, one of the best models they ever made across all variants with even the 6 cyl SE described by Autocar as all the car anyone would ever need.
I had a new 535d as soon as they were launched. It was a good car but for a long time people said the e39 was still the one.
I did 99500 miles between 1998 and 2009 in a 528i SE. Just kept it as every car I road tested was not as good. Friends who have known all my cars over 46 years cannot decide which is the better of the 528i and the Macan

PorscheMack wrote: Sat Sep 04, 2021 7:49 pm The answer to your question falls into two camps:
1. Those who have ordered an S will say the S is the one to go for.
2. Likewise for GTS buyers.

Ask yourself this. If money/cost wasn't in the mix which model would you choose? The answer is likely to be the GTS because you perceive that it's the better car whether it is or not.

Don't expect any answers to convince you either way as they are all right in the senders opinion. Good luck and the sooner you get your deposit down on the GTS the better 😊
With the Gen 3 S being a Gen 2 GTS drivetrain wise, I do think someone on the forum are trying to move away from letter loyalty to a more detailed analysis of comparative features and variations in suspension and wheel size plus individuals buyer's preferences and use of the vehicle.

To me the GTS thing smacks of the XR3i, but for more money. Only difference is an XR3i looked different to a standard Escort, whereas a GTS looks exactly the same as an S, except for those 2 letters on the back that seem extremely valuable to some. Its your money, so spend it however you want, or however Porsche marketing people want you to.
I’m gobsmacked you’d take the S over a GTS if both were offered for the same price! That’s such a surprise and still not sure I get the logic

Anyhoo enjoy the S

Apologies, missed the quote button
Ok good to know thanks. Guessing some of the options you had on the S must be standard ones on the GTS as even with that GFV, GTS would cost me more £30-£40 more?

Wow - thank you all for answering. Lots of experience and lots of very good points. This quote sums it up perfectly and I was open to admit in my initial post that there could be badge envy at play here.

I can afford a GTS and I have previous form for buying a new car and then trading it in with the same dealer because I regretted compromising. However at 10k more it needs a bit of reflection and as I am new to the marque I was looking for some wisdom/honest feedback. It seems I am not alone with this dilemma for a Gen 3.

Will probably be back once I have confirmed an order - thanks for all the advice. Head says S, heart says GTS.
It just depends on how you spec the S.

Both cars are similar but not the same. One is better than the other.

If you spec an S lightly and are happy with that spec then great, makes sense to get that as it represents better value - hence why they say the S is the better deal out of the gen 3 models. BTW Better deal does not mean same car or better car compared to the GTD though :) think that’s where some people are getting confused. Just means it’s better value if lightly optioned.

However, if you heavily option the S and want it to look like a GTS and start to add some of the options that are standard on the GTS then the S no longer becomes appealing. At that point making the jump to the GTS is the logical move.

Some of those features I’m talking about include:

21 inch wheels
Painted front bumper, rear and side skirts
Tinted rear lights
Sports exhaust system
Blacked window trims and badging
Extended leather trim
Air suspension

These features are either standard or significantly cheaper on the GTS and adds up to about an additional £7.5k of extras that you need to add to the S. At that point the price difference between the two cars is just £4K

All of those options are important for me so the GTS makes sense.

However if they are not important to you then go for the S. Just depends on the spec.

Also depends on how rich you are, if money is no object go for the GTS obviously.

I don’t see why not. Most manufacturers offer the choice.

I’ve not looked recently at price differentials between model lines but the Audi Sline and bmw Msport models were always the ones most people wanted and for those that had to finance was the cheaper option. However both of those variations limit options and have bad rides so if you want a decent ride the get an SE. Same applies here

But you can add standard air suspension on the GTS as a free option to make it even better ride quality. not sure the example is a good one when comparing an S to a GTS.

It worked out 5k OTR difference but the gts retaining the extra 7k meant the GTS is 2k cheaper over the term. Plus I gained things like air suspension, the better brakes, tinted front and rear lights, leather dash and doors (handle area) that I hadn’t specd but would quite like

Money is no object but I do want and would refuse to buy a car with\;-

21 inch wheels
Tinted rear lights
Sports exhaust system

I do want and would not have a car without

Blacked window trims
Air suspension

I am neutral on Extended leather trim depending on the interior colour I choose.

I rarely have the opportunity to use the full performance of my 2019S and think if i regularly used the performance of Gen3 GTS over a Gen 3 S I would have a UK driving license for long.

Despite the 1st sentence of my reply, if I was buying a new Macan at the present time it would be an S for the reasons above plus the increased refinement above the Base
