Finally convinced my beautiful other half that I should get a decent car at long last. She said OK it would be my 70th birthday present. Starting my driving career at 16 l have enjoyed many fine and not so fine vehicles viz:

1968 Reliant Regal 3 wheeler
1969 Austin Mini 850
1971 Morris Mini Countryman 850
1973 Austin Healey Sprite
1975 MGB Roadster
1978 Morris Mini 850
1980 Honda Prelude 1600
1982 Ford Cortina Estate
1983 Jensen Healey 2.0
1985 Austin Montego
1987 Mitsubishi Spacewagon
1990 Mitsubishi Spacewagon
1995 Mitsubishi Spacewagon
1999 BMW 528i
2001 BMW 325i
2004 Honda Accord Est
2005 Alfa Romeo Spider
2006 BMW 520D Est
2009 Subaru Legacy GT SpecB Est
2010 Volvo C70
2011 BMW 530GT
2013 Ford Escort Estate
2014 Jaguar XF Sportbrake 2.0D
2017 BMW 435D Gran Coupe
2018 Peugeot 207 1.6 Sport
2019 BMW 420D Convertible
2020 BMW X1 Msport Xdrive20D

Some of them have been tip cars, some concurrent, the Spacewagon splurge was having 4 kids.

Today I am chopping in the X1 and then waiting 6 months for http://www.porsche-code.com/PNIVVXS4. My only concern is theft of such a nice car having had the 435 nicked off the drive whilst on holiday. I'm hoping the toerags of this world are more interested in the sports car end of the range rather than the shopping trollies. :D
Cheers

PS. At the showroom yesterday I sat and played around in the Turbo. Thought the price was low as it was Gen 2 and they wanted to get it off the books. Amazed that it was 2017. The seats had no evidence of sag and they must have been using new car spray. I will be very pleased if mine looks and feels so good after that time.

Welcome Bluesnose!

Interesting list of cars but I couldn't spot the 'fine' ones!

Lovely S spec you have there. You'll find that lots here will help you spend more money! But we all have our own preferences and the only thing I would suggest is ditching the running boards which are ugly and get in the way of getting out of the car and putting the money towards 14-way comfort seats with memory. After all, for me, seats are the most important aspect of the car, it's where you spend all your time when driving! And the memory function brings some useful benefits too. I'd suggest you try 14-ways in a demonstrator car.

Lovely spec. Must admit I've toyed with the red/black interior but Mrs D is not a fan.

Hold on !

A gold montego was my first car in 1993 when I passedmy test.

Mum gave it to me when dad bought her a new bmw !

It was a 2.0 mind so fast. Always wondered why I was slow attracting the girls ! πŸ˜‚

Things have changed somewhat now, on both counts !

Welcome OP

Touching all the wood you can find - I think hopefully you will find that BMWs are more of a target for theft for Porsches. Probably for parts as I hear the indicators don’t work in them very well….

Agree on side steps - more of a hindrance than benefit.

Hi,
I would have thought at your young age you would have gone for the GTS πŸ˜‚ Maybe next time πŸ‘

Incidentally, I have owned over 40 cars, rarely having two at the same time, and even more rarely keeping for more than 3 years. It's an addiction that's hard to explain.. Why did you choose the Macan out of interest?

An interesting question, my guess is that after owning three REAL minis he wants to return to that joy if driving and the Macan is close with the added benefit of being easier to live with when the joints have started to creak!

Anywhere close Bluesnose? Welcome aboard (NB OP = Original Poster) some of the jargon is a bit obscure.
