Hi
New to the forum. Ordered a Gen 3 S due in March and keen for some advice re. wheels. Am I correct in thinking 20" and PASM will offer a comfortable ride but if I spec 21" wheels I will need air suspension.
If so that adds £3,000-ish and I think the cash could be better spent elsewhere.
Current spec is here - http://www.porsche-code.com/PNGT4TE4
Thanks in advance.
Chris.
Hello & question re. 21" rims with Air Suspension
I think that's a good summary of what I've gleaned over the last couple of years. You could also add that 21" tyres probably cost more, I haven't checked, and come with a higher risk of rim damage.

Welcome! You won’t “need” air suspension with 21” wheels. Peoples views vary. I had 21” wheels with no PASM, which for me was fine. Others disagree. Ideally you need to see if you can test drive your desired combo of wheels/PASM/air to decide for yourself.

Totally agree with Simon. I've got 21" without air suspension, and find it more than adequate. But as said it all depends on your personal expectations.
I think the vehicle also has a good presence with them.

A couple of years ago, I had a loaner 2L Macan that was on 21" wheels and no PASM. I was surprised that the ride was not as bad as I was expecting. To me, PASM is essential for the improvement in handling that you get from it being adaptive but as Simon has said, you don't ""need" air suspension.
My car might seem to contradict what I've said but the Gen 2 GTS demonstrator had air suspension and the ride and handling were perfect so that's what I specified. Steve (SAC1) will give you the same answer for 20" wheels on a GTS with PASM on steel so you pays your money and you takes your choice

If you've ever had a BMW with RFT on 19s or 20s ...you'll know what a terrible ride it is.
The Macan without air suspension on 21s is fine in my opinion. I viewed the air suspension as something else to go wrong, as I know someone who has had problems with it. This is Porsche, they wouldn't specify you can fit 21s if the ride was affected dramatically.

But when Porsche put 21's on the GTS they added air suspension as standardMTUK wrote: ↑Fri Sep 24, 2021 4:51 pm If you've ever had a BMW with RFT on 19s or 20s ...you'll know what a terrible ride it is.

...to boost their profits!!
If they felt it was mandatory, they’d insist you add air if you spec 21” wheels on a 2.0 or an S.

Yep, had a 335i Msport with 19” runflats. Had to have 3 of them replaced due to cracking ( under warranty) because of fun British roads. I actually loved it but you could run over a wood louse and feel it through the steering wheel.MTUK wrote: ↑Fri Sep 24, 2021 4:51 pm If you've ever had a BMW with RFT on 19s or 20s ...you'll know what a terrible ride it is.
