It was basically an 1800 SRi but an estate.

Edited to add. Only had it 5 months as written off after t-boning a Pug 405 at 60mph (the Belgian lady driving it decided to look left rather than right before pulling across the dual carriageway I was driving along).

That's quite a list! I'll gloss over some of those dubious British cars - Metros? - but you redeemed yourself with a few others there - V8 Vantage perhaps? - and would be interesting to hear a bit about those yanks.

We've run a topic on this in the past - viewtopic.php?f=21&t=4241&hilit=cars+i+have+owned - and it revealed a lot about a few members here!

Jeez, I've just seen virage11's list. Talk about setting a high bar!

The Vantage was a bucket list tick box, and one of the most beautiful (imho) cars ever built. Pure theatre every time I got into it and fired that wonderful V8.

The Yanks were a phase, although the Buick is probably the car I most wish I'd kept. Designed by Bill Mitchell, it's 2-door, 4-seat coupe design is recognised as a classic. 425 ci (6970cc) cast iron big-block V8 producing 360hp and 465ft-lb it would turn 0-60 in around 7.5s, not bad for a car weighing close to two ton. Carburation provided by two four-barrel Carter's (630cfm each) giving average 'economy' of 7mpg (8 if you took it easy) on 5 star petrol (which was incompatible with early 1980's mortgage rates and why ut had to go).

Still have a bit of a soft spot for American muscle, and have had brief 'affairs' with a C3 Corvette and a Viper GTS since.

Indeed. Mate of mine had a Formula 400 Firebird. Was the Cortina a Mk1? My best mate (and best man) had one. Bet he (and you) wishes he'd kept it with the money they now fetch.

No, sadly, a MkII, but still a nice motor. The engine sounded great, especially with the two twin-choke Webers, which were pretty easy to set up and helped it run really sweetly when they were spot on. I had a few cars then that would be worth a bit now, a 1275 Cooper S, a couple of 3 litre Capris and 99 Saab Turbo. All great cars in their own ways.
