Hi... I am new to this forum and on the look for a 17/18 reg Diesel Macan S - Any suggestions on

Spec to choose.

Sport mode
Sport Plus? Is it worth it?
Why are some models De-badged?
21 inch wheel recommended?
Pan roof advised

Anyone had any specific problem to be aware of ?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Welcome to our friendly forum! :)

Sport mode comes as standard.

You’ll get various opinions on the other points.

Maybe some folks don’t want to advertise that they drive a diesel?

I like 21” wheels, but not pan roofs. Other opinions are available. ;)

You will read that the transfer box can be a common issue...

Good luck with your search.

Cheers,
Simon

Welcome to the forum.

Sport Mode is standard, Sport Plus comes with the Sport Chrono option. Views on this are mixed, I personally wouldn’t be bothered. It changes the gearbox to a more sporty setting, but does not give any more power.

De-badging is an option that you can choose when buying new. Some owners just prefer this, for various reasons. E.g. a cleaner look.

21 inch are more prone to kerbing, and may give a firmer ride. But should be fine if PASM suspension is fitted.

Pan roofs are popular, but are one of the few items that can cause issues, leaks in particular.

Surround View is really useful for parking.

Im a fan of Adaptive Cruise control, which also gives automatic braking safety features.

Good luck!

Not sure I can add any other comments.

Ask if transfer box has been changed.

Welcome aboard, not sure where you are looking but a Porsche Warranty is a comfort and worth some premium.

Welcome!

The key thing is to check whether the transfer box is OK. It might have been replaced, or it might still be OK.

I wouldn't bother if the Sports Chrono option is missing.

PASM is an essential in my view. And I'd avoid 21" wheels - the 20" wheels seem to be a good compromise.

Look for the Surround View option; it's a great parking aid and helps to avoid rim damage.

The Pano roof helps to lighten the interior. I haven't had any problems with mine in 5.5 years.

Also look for the optional headlight upgrade. The standard lights then were halogen and were about as much use as candles in jars. Bi-Xenon and LED headlights were optional and are much better.

I had a 2017 Macan from new and standard spec was sparse, even sat nav was an option. 21” wheels not crucial but imo stay clear of standard 18” wheels.

Just make sure the car you buy has your “must haves “

Good luck with your search and keep us updated.

Welcome.

Must Haves IMO

PASM
14 way seats
Surround Cam
LED lights is you drive a reasonable amount at night

If you have young passengers in the rear then include Side Airbags
20” wheels are fine.

Yes, Pano lightens a dark interior.

I debadged my Turbo for less clutter and easier cleaning.

AVOID any Macan that does not include PASM, without it the ride is very harsh.

Check for a history of DPF problems, some SD Macan’s had limp home issues that were never solved by the dealer, these few cars were bought back and we do not know what happened to them. If you are intending to use an SD just for short journeys then I would suggest an S would be a better bet.

Finally my SD only ever managed a true 33mpg, where over 36mpg was shown on the MFD. Not many here achieved over 40mpg indicated.
