Depends upon year, an official extended Porsche Warranty is always a good idea with a Macan you have not owned from new
There is an interesting chat going on within our regional PCGB What's App group. Local OPC labour ate is £280 per hour and the local independent rate £108 per hour. the local independent has fixed servicing quotes less than a third members have been paying at OPC.

Porsche extended warranty (not being a new car warranty referred to in overriding legislation) ties you to OPC servicing. An individual buying a Second hand Porsche needs to decide whether he wants to go down the insured route (for which many recognise the Official warranty is the best) or self insure (and possible buy non OPC) from an independent specialist. That may well depend the extent they could afford a large bill if their self insured experience turned out to be adverse.

Personally, I am in the official warranty route for at least next two and a half years. However, at the end of that period I may well decide to self insure , move to independent servicing. If I did I would gain greater freedom on tyre type I fit. A modern snow flake approved best suits the British climate but unfortunately Porsche have not given N type approval of any of that type for the Macan. Another possible factor effecting the decision is whether the car has air suspension or not. If so, the official route may be better value than not as Porsche does not differentiate in insured cost dependent on suspension type

For particular individuals, a decision re servicing and official warranty or not can also depend on the extent they have a convenient good independent available.
Porsche used warranty does not tie you to OPC servicing. I won’t bore you with what I went through to confirm this but I have confirmation from Porsche GB that this is the case.
For a warranted claim to be denied they would have to prove that the service you had (from Indy) caused the failure directly.
True technically but it introduces another area for dispute and hassle where there are already many

Well said.

My Turbo is coming up for seven years old, only OPC serviced and I have not bothered with extended warranty after the first expired, so now I see it as having cash in hand should something go wrong.

Buying a second hand Macan I would certainly want the car to have a Porsche Extended Warranty and to ensure that all the usual issues have been checked:- Transfer Box, Oil Leaks, All engine bolts intact, Disc Wear, Pano leaks, DPF issues if an SD.

I have no Indie near me but an OPC 15 minutes away so tend to use them for convenience.

Our Daughter has a Mini Cooper that developed an engine fault but she would not take advice and go to a Mini dealer, going to an Indie instead. Multiple visits later they had resolved the issue with her car being in their garage for over a week in total but with no loaner being available getting to and from work and out and about was a problem for her as a single parent and not living close to us. In the end she had a lot of hastle and the Indie cost was over £1700 where the Mini Dealer would have been £2000 and she would have had a loaner.

Sometimes using an Indie makes no sense at all.

You say ‘modern snow flake approved’ tyres are not approved by Porsche for the Macan, but of course this symbol is used generally in winter tyres which Porsche do approve. I guess you meant ‘all season’, which usually aren’t snow flake (3PMSF) marked, although Michelin Cross Climates are. Porsche don’t currently approve all seasons for the Macan.

Agreed I had the words all season in there at one stage but most have lost it by accident. In fact all the other major tyre companies do a Michelin Cross Climate competitor and I saw a review yesterday that rated the Continental and Bridgestone competitors above Michelin

Wing Commander wrote: Wed Aug 16, 2023 7:23 am Hi Nick,

Welcome to our friendly forum! :)

I notice that some independent ‘prestige’ car dealers (not main dealers of Porsche etc) ask similar prices to main branded dealerships. As above, the Porsche used 2 year warranty is nice to have, as long as you’re not simply paying £2k to £3k more for a car, compared to a non-Porsche dealer.

Cheers,
Thanks Simon,

Independent dealers are of a similar price, it's the private sellers where a good saving can be made, in excess of £2-£3k but with it will come the risk.
