It's getting blasted nicely Paul, 9 days in & 500+miles on :) Hubs will see to it with his weekly 90-mile round trip to golf with mates!

Good decision Sophiacat. We had the same dilemma, but went for the SD as I love the low down torque and better fuel economy, especially on long runs. One month and 1000 miles in and we have no regrets. :) Much better handling and ride comfort than my previous Mercedes E250 CDI AMG Coupe. Much better visibility to see over the hedges in our rural area with its country lanes and with the AWD benefit for the winter months to come too.

We have a SEAT Leon FR 1.8i petrol [Golf GTI in a prettier frock] for the local runs and point and squirt fun! :D

Yeah SAC it was the fuel economy that swung the vote in the end. I have a feeling we may end up getting a little run-around (probably an mx5 knowing the hubs!) at some point though ;)

We've had five brand new MX-5s over the years and they were all fantastic. Great fun - handling, grip, steering response; ultra reliable and well made given the price. In fact the only way to improve was to then have a brand SLK in 2005, followed by another brand new one in 2008 that my better half loved so much that we kept it until 2014. Why not a Boxster you may ask? Well too big for the garage and we didn't want to keep a soft top outdoors overnight.

How are you finding the mpg on yours? Our SD is doing 40+ mpg on a longer runs and mid-30s locally. I did give it the full beans yesterday  , in Sport + max suspension stiffness, on a cross country run and saw 30 mpg. Mightily impressed though given the depth of performance and 'sports car' handling :D

Yes Mr Cat is also a super mx5 fan - had 4 prior to moving on to an audi TT then the 4-series convertible. (looking back at our car history, the macan is somewhat of a departure from our 'norm' i.e. convertibles haha)

Re: mileage, I'm not actually sure... 600 miles in, the mpg counter in the right-sided screen on the drivers dashboard consistently shows around 39 mpg regardless of the drive - i figured that's the average? Do I need to reset it to get a true/live reading? (That was going to be the next thing I looked up in the manual - manual geek that I am!)

Thanks :) So with resetting the current journey each time, todays short trips around town have given me an average of 39-44mpg. Not too shabby! ;)
