Thanks for the comments. I'll try the 20s. I do use the car in mud and snow (fact of live when living in the Lakes) and the higher profile tyres should be more effective.

If you switch up from 19" to 20" there is a little plastic guard that you have to add in the wheel arch. I seem to recall it mentioned on the forum before that they are reasonably priced.

Thanks for the heads up Macandriver, I did know about them and expect they are probably fitted to meet some EU production standard regulations. IF the change happens I'll investigate.

No issues with 20" and all seasons at all, more comfortable and better ride than a previous X5
