Hi FreddyB,owning a Porsche is a different mindset in my view, I had my first Porsche in 2014 (Macan), I played safe as I was always used to having everything on previous cars, Jags, as standard, I wouldn’t swap your wheels as I think they are probably right if you don’t have PASM, Over the last few years for various reasons I have had 4 Macan’s, the SD has great torque and imo is hard to beat, over this period on Macan 2 I went over the top with extras, not worth it in my view, enjoy the car it’s hard to beat for quality and engineering, if you ever get to the stage of ordering another my only advice is don’t pay above 10% of the base price on extras, hence the GTS for me
By the way as this is my first diesel, I’m only just realising that there are two cetane types1 and 2, similar to petrol in terms of unleaded RON98 etc. Assuming anyone reading uses diesel 2, do you notice Diesel 2 making a real difference to performance? I fill up at my local Esso but was thinking to try Shell V pumps next time.

Welcome to the forum Freddy. I’m on my third SD and never had PASM on any of my cars. First two cars were on 20” Spyders and latest on 21” Sports classics. Your car on 19” wheels should be pretty comfy. Have you got a decent warranty as all Macans can potentially have transfer box issues. Don’t forget to post pics of your new motor.

Thanks GMAN, I’ll definitely look into itGMAN75 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 20, 2019 10:41 amAs an aside, as you have chosen a diesel being city based, I would strongly advise looking at the threads on here surrounding how these cars like their legs stretched. If you're intending on short city based trips, not saying you are, you will enter a world of pain regarding the DPF. I noticed this is your first diesel. They behave much differently to petrol. Some of the posters on here are the best at explaining the difference in driving style you will need to know about.FreddyB123 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 20, 2019 9:51 amHi Spud, thanks for the welcome and great advice Think I will take a serious look at the Macan GTS for my next one.Spud wrote: ↑Sun Jan 20, 2019 9:20 am

Unlike the cars of some of the previous posters, my Macan SD has been fed almost exclusively on supermarket fuel (just like my Cayenne before it). Over 33k miles it has averaged over 35mpg and never missed a beat.
I know that the top fuels have additional additives but they can also cost up to 10p a litre more so you pays your money and takes your choice.
Good luck with your new car and welcome to the forum.

One thing I have found is the premium for premium/price does vary between BP garages ( it jumped at one local BP garage when the manager changed) and I tend to have a look at Petrolprices.com before travelling far from home.FreddyB123 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 20, 2019 12:38 pmThanks pmg, I’ll head to BP on my next visit to the pumpspmg wrote: ↑Sun Jan 20, 2019 10:31 amI am told BP ultimate is the highest cetane premium diesel and in the diesel cars I have owned I have found it smoothest and best mpg.FreddyB123 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 20, 2019 9:51 am

Hi Mark-Yorkshire, thanks for the warm welcome and advice. And I’ll post some pictures up soonmark-yorkshire wrote: ↑Sun Jan 20, 2019 12:42 pm Welcome to the forum Freddy. Yes I purchased the Macan with a Porsche Warranty, but it expires September this year.. I was already thinking of purchasing an extended warranty once this one expires. But in all honesty, I think there’s a good chance that I’ve invalidated the warranty already with all my retrofits. So far I’ve done:
- Reversing Camera
- AutoWatch Ghost Immobiliser and
- Screen Mirroring, which imo was the biggest waste of money since the building of the Titanic. I actually asked the company for an Apple Car Play retrofit, as the Porsche Apple Car Play retrofit is for 2017 models onwards... They ordered a unit, then on fitting said that they couldn’t get it to work. Apparently the buttons on the screen were not responding. They even had the audacity at first to say to me that my PCM 3.1 doesn’t have touchscreen!! If I laughed any harder at these guys I would’ve ended up crying - which I almost did after I saw Screen Mirroring as it’s replacement... I then got in touch with NM Automotive the Porsche specialists based in the Channel Islands and spoke directly to Nick Marquis, who sells retrofit equipment for the Macan that has actually been tested, and he has given me some great advice. Like watch where you bring your Porsche in future.. Lol. An expensive lesson to learn, but nevertheless an experience I’m much wiser from. It could’ve been worse.
Tomorrow morning I’m having fitted:
- Apple Car Play unit
- Porsche Smart Module (wing mirrors close on lock, windows close on lock etc)
- Thinkware F-800 Pro dashcam, front and rear
- And currently I’m waiting for the arrival of my CRTD4 Twin Channel Diesel Tuning Box Chip, which I’m hoping will provide a little extra torque, performance and fuel economy. Seeing as though my Macan is now over 3yrs old, I thought it may help and I’ll see a nice difference. It’s plug and play too, so I can remove it at any time unlike a traditional remap. So yes Mark, I think there’s a possibility that the remaining months of my Porsche Warranty are now toast!
Thanks for the heads up about the possible transfer box issue. Have you personally had a Macan suffer from the issue? What sort of cost outside warranty are we talking about?
Thanks Mark, and I’d be interested to read anyones experiences, comments and opinions on anything I’ve mentioned

Hi Wing Commander, thanks for your warm welcome and advice I’m definitely savouring my new Porsche that’s for sure, such a pleasure to drive. I actually look forward to getting behind the wheel every single timeWing Commander wrote: ↑Sun Jan 20, 2019 12:31 pm Hi Freddy and welcome to our friendly forum
Many congrats on your Macan.
As Nick says, main reason that buyers (including me!) go for bigger wheels (20” or 21”) are for the looks, also know by some as ‘bling’!
I’d stick with the 19”s for now and savour your Porsche.
Plenty of time to plan the spec of your next one...!
And yes, my next Macan will surely benefit from the experience of me having had this one! It has certainly been an experience so far.
Cheers
