Hi,

I got a call from my dealer that my Crayon Macan is finally built and is being shipped for a delivery in next 10 days. It's my first Porsche and super excited!!

Any advice on
- Things to remember during collection
- all those insurance products that dealer offer; are they even worth it? E.g. GAP, tyre etc.
- is there any advantage of taking delivery in April week 1 Vs March 31st which the dealer is suggesting?
- any ceramic coating/ detailing etc that I should think of getting done?
- I forgot to order the space saver spare wheel? Would I need it or actually not much of use (don't intend to off-road at-least for sometime)

Thanks a lot and really excited for it!!

The dealer will want it gone in March for their end of quarter figures. For you it makes no odds whether March or April so take it as soon as possible.

Not sure what the comment about space saver spare and not off roading means. Most of us specified the spare and never off road but we know a puncture could be picked up any day on the road.

It’s the all important end of year targets for the dealer, usually the best time to get deals on ‘ordinary’ motors. But if you take it on 31st March you lose a month’s tax, assuming it’s being used in the UK.

You can nearly always get better deals on anything the dealer offers to sell you on collection, so read up on here, do your research beforehand.

Some swear by ceramic coatings but unless you are going to take great care of it then it is a waste of money.

Retrofitting the spare wheel is expensive, so unless you want that peace of mind, you’ll be relying on breakdown services. Most people have reported good response from Porsche Assist.

On collection you should have a full tank of fuel. Schedule it so you and the dealer have plenty time to go over the car in detail. Carry out a full inspection of the car, checking the outside particularly for damage or panel gap misalignment. Most dealers will give a small freebie such as coffee cups, etc.

Enjoy the event!

  • Welcome to the forum! It's a great place to pick up advice
  • As said, give yourself plenty of time to inspect the car and really enjoy the process :)
  • Regarding insurance products - it's all down to your own view of risk. Personally I don't take GAP or anything else. But if you want to, if you search the forum you'll find recommendations for 3rd party insurance products which are better value
  • And most importantly of all, take plenty of photos and share them here :D

Maybe check the car tax rules. If you take the car on 31 March you may find that your car tax runs out on 29 Feb 2020, thereby 'losing' a few weeks' tax!

Or course, if you are renewing car tax in Apr (rather than Mar) each year then you will face the annual car tax rises. Depends how you want to look at it, if you are that fussed :?

Welcome.

Spare wheel, I have had an unrepairable puncture and luckily had a spare, I would not worry about not having one but I would buy a second can of sealant just in case plus I would always ensure I had a mobile with me.

Ceramic coating, dependent upon how OCD you are about the finish. You will be surprized at the difference in finish between the waxed/unwaxed car at an OPC and a fully detailed one. Paint on a Porsche is OK but does require one day of cleaning, claying and buffing to remove imperfections, and there are imperfections. If you go the detailing, get it done at a specialist and not at your OPC and do not let the OPC clean the car. See the thread

GAP, insure via NFU and you get their GAP insurance included.

Welcome

Quick pointer re tax; if you do take the car in March the dealership will be able to tax the car for a year and a week ensuring you don’t loose out. Make sure they pay for the extra week!

Yes, only on 1st reg of new vehicles - used to cost £3.50 a week, probably more now!
