Hi All

Just picked up a 2016 turbo today. P/ex my Cayenne Diesel with 100k. Feels so taught I hadn’t noticed how soft the Cayenne had got :)

Couple of questions what do we think about extended warranties 3rd party or Porsche only .

Also can roof rails be Retro fitted didn’t realise mine hasn’t got them

Isn’t going to be an easy or cheap job to retrofit roof rails, if it is even possible at all??

Look at these is you want to carry a roof boot, or a tow bar and rack if it's for bikes

When I bought mine, the SE told me that roof rails could not be retrofitted so you have to make that decision when you order.

I'd never use them so I didn't bother. I think it looks better without.

Hello and welcome!

I have just acquired a 2016 turbo and asked myself the same question.

Having purchased Boxsters from OPCs in the past, I have found the 2 year warranty and roadside assistance to be a no quibble peace of mind having made 2 claims in the past and in one case they found 2 other faults which were covered under the warranty and simply fixed them all. However, I may have been lucky as I have also read stories of unsuccessful Porsche warranty claims which to me (and other readers) should have clearly been covered. The other point to note here is that Porsche now charge £180 to inspect and diagnose a fault to determine if it's covered under the warranty (which is refundable if it is).

My current Boxster is just coming up to warranty expiration and I have decided to put the £1,500 it would have cost me to extend this for a further 2 years into a contingency fund. Obviously something catatrosphic would cost much more than this but it has full Porsche service history, only 28,000 miles, and going forward will be maintained by a reliable independent specialist which I rate more highly than any OPC I have dealt with. Any repair costs which would (or should) be covered by a Porsche warranty would be carried out at the indy's pricing which is significantly cheaper than an OPC.

Turning to the Macan I have just bought, this comes with a standard 3 month dealer warranty so I am faced with the same question but in this case the car is newer than the Boxster and with just 22,000 miles, and the cost of the Porsche extended warranty with roadside assistance rises to circa £2,000. So I have made the same decision.

As for 3rd party warranties, I have no experience but suspect they are less comprehensive than a Porsche warranty.

They vary so read the book carefully before you shell out.

I've had a couple of claims with no problems, one with Bluesomething and the other went back to Cornhill.

The Cornhill claim replaced my £1200 fan controller, that didn't work and they found the real culprit was a £6 thermostat switch!

I think six months is statutory minimum. No doubt Paul will be along shortly to confirm or otherwise.

😳😂😂
I don’t believe there is any minimum warranty requirement, but you do have protection from the recentish consumer rights legislation which essentially allows a full refund within the first 6 months if the product is not up to standard (or repaired satisfactorily)
