Dash cams?

Was given an estimate of £640 by Porsche to install dashcam on new vehicle.

Advantage is that you no longer risk invalidating the warranty and you don’t have a nagging concern that, if anything goes wrong with the vehicle, Porsche will say “not our problem”..

Disadvantage is that it’s damn expensive and is twice the amount I paid for a front and rear instal on my last car.

The hidden costs of owning a Porsche I guess!

Which dealer quoted £640?
Bristol have just quoted me £800

Reading. But it’s clear that this is a very new service so not sure if £640 will end up the right amount. Either way it’s way overpriced.

I found even with my very small Garmin it tends to cause the mirror to dim in daylight due to the camera shading the sensor. Looking at the pictures of the Porsche one it will be even worse.

OK not the end of the world as you just switch dimming off during the day

The nice man at Autoglass tidied up all the connecting cables to my hardwired Nextbase dashcam, he hid them behind the trim panels when he fitted my new screen. Car has been to local OPC since with no warranty contravention whinging.

Looks good. I will have to enquire at my OPC and see if it's available across the range.

Think this is the same dashcam I optioned on my current Audi Q5. Front camera OK, rear resolution not that great and poor at night. Also bloody annoying woman with German accent keeps telling me “ unit is shuttink dooooown” or “eventz rekorded during Parkkink”.

always had mixed views about these. Useful if someone drives into you but also a bit incriminating given I occasionally drive like a spanner.
