Hi all, so there have been a few car thefts close to home and it’s got me thinking about gap insurance. ALA have quoted me £370 for 3 years on my 2018 gts. Just wondering if many of you out there use gap insurance and is £370 a good price?

Never seen any value in it, so no.

I got 25% off using MSE25.
Came to £330 for a 4 year back to invoice on a MY18 GTS.
Personally think it's a good value product, if the car is written off in say 3 years I get back exactly what I paid for it rather than the current value, allowing me to go out and buy something much newer.
Hope I never have to use it, but one of the better insurance products and at circa £80 per year, it's about a meal out.

I also got 25% discount from ALA, and my views are the same as @JurassicMacan regarding the benefit of gap insurance.

Unfortunately I can't seem to get gap insurance because my car is insured under a motor trade policy and is therefore specifically excluded.

The best I could do was buy an annual Total Loss Top Up policy which increases the total loss pay out by an additional 25% up to a maximum of £10,000. It costs me £62 a year.

Nice one Tim H that code just took another £40 off bringing down to £330. £110 per year for no sleepless nights seems a bargain. 👍

I recommend gapinsurance.co,uk which I’d frank pickles. I was quoted £250 for 4 years back to invoice.

Another vote for ALA - not a lot of money for peace of mind should disaster strike - plus they allow you to transfer any remaining premium to your next car.

Couldn't disagree more - my son's Mini was written off by a lunatic on the wrong side of the road a few years ago. Car was getting on 3 years old, cost £18k new. Insurance paid out around £12k, ALA paid out the balance. Claim was straightforward and paid within a couple of weeks. Wouldn't be without it on any new car now.
