Hello from ALA Insurance!

Post by Katie@ALA » Thu Aug 02, 2018 3:42 pm

Hello!

Just a bit of an introduction - my name's Katie and I work for ALA (www.ala.co.uk). We've been on the forum for a while and (with permission!) we wanted to get a bit more involved. :D

ALA is the UK’s largest online GAP provider and we've specialised in this type of cover for almost 15 years. We know dealers charge really high prices for GAP and we want to provide a better value alternative. We also have other products including Scratch and Dent, Alloy Wheel, Tyre and Excess insurance, as well as Extended Warranty cover.

We’re not a faceless call centre and we pride ourselves on our excellent customer service. We never give our customers the hard sell, we’re simply here to offer information and advice about GAP as we know it can be quite a complicated product.

If you'd like to know more about GAP insurance, why you might need it and why we’re so much cheaper than the dealers (!) drop us a line and we’ll be more than happy to help!

Visit our site www.ala.co.uk and use discount code forum123 - this now gives you 10% off any policy.

If you have any questions at all please get in touch, either on here or using the details below.

Thanks,
Katie

Katie,
I have from memory the ala five year policy, for those who wish to keep cars longer, has ala considered extension policies?
I suppose one could do an arranged sale an purchase, seems a lot of effort for the same result, obviously the replacement value may have to change its value at the time.
Thanks

Hi Nomad

Thanks for getting in touch :D

The extension policies were something we were keen to offer to our customers, and the underwriters did offer this for a short while as a trial period however for various reasons they decided not to continue with this long term.

There is still an option once the original policy has expired: if the car is less than 7 years old and has covered less than 80,000 miles we can look at an Agreed Value GAP policy. This fixes the Glass's Guide value of the car at the time of taking out the new policy. Your vehicle will (usually) continue to decrease in value in the eyes of your motor insurer, and we will provide a "top-up" to the agreed value.

I hope this makes sense and if you have any other questions please let me know.

Thanks,
Katie

Hello Katie. I am just about to buy a Macan with 21" wheels and am interested in tyre insurance, but when I checked your site the tyre cover is only available for up to 20". I can see the need for limits from a tyre cost viewpoint but surely you could just charge a higher premium for larger tyre sizes rather than not offer any cover option. Any thoughts to this changing or is my only option the OPC cover?
Thanks.

Hello jgedwards

Thanks for getting in touch.

I completely understand, and unfortunately the underwriters impose the 20" size limit and won't allow us to offer cover for any tyres which have a larger diameter than this.

We have asked the question of the underwriters before and we will ask them again now just in case they've changed their minds, and let you know :)

Thanks,
Katie

Hi Nomad

You're more than welcome.

In relation to your wife's car, unfortunately we cannot cover cars which have been originally registered outside of the UK.

I'm sorry that we can't help with this but if you do have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks,
Katie

Hi Curious2

Thanks for your question.

We can still offer you GAP insurance but it is a slightly different type - we can only offer Back to Invoice + or Vehicle Replacement + within 365 days of you taking delivery of the car. After that we can offer an Agreed Value GAP policy - we use the Glass's Guide retail value of your car (based on its age and mileage) at the time you purchase the policy as the "agreed value". We then pay the difference between your motor insurer's settlement in the event of a write off and that amount.

If you would like a quote for this option please send your vehicle registration number and current total mileage to my email which is katie@ala.co.uk

I hope this helps and I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,
Katie

Hi jgedwards

Just a quick update in relation to your query about our Tyre insurance - the underwriters have confirmed that they won't consider extending the current offering to included 21" tyres at this stage.

I am sorry that we can't help with that at the moment and if you do have any questions at all please let me know.

Thanks,
Katie
