Deposit for the 2021 mid year update model Macan

Just placed a deposit for Macan 2021 model update. Whilst looking for a GTS less than one year old i soon realised they are very rare and priced as new so decided to look at new. Doing some research I saw an article about the next updated models due for release mid year. Spoke to a local OPC and put down a deposit as they have just been given the go ahead to take deposits. No detailed spec for a while but appears that apart from some minor body changes the dash area will be more like the new Panamera with touch sensitive button panels , and touch only infotainment.
Probably find the GTS will be a lot later than the S so may have to wait or go for an S.
I can look forward to many hours on the configurator once it is updated.

Just as some food for thought, I looked at the possibility for waiting but then realised a few things (below). The main principle here is that the GTS badge is miles more desirable than the S.

1) The GTS seems to have always been 18 months to 2 years behind the normal car - even with the major update at the end of 2018 they didn’t do a GTS launch until the beginning of 2020.

2) IMO a touch sensitive glossy centre panel isn’t as desirable as the current button setup. You may have issues with the sun, and if it looks bare then it shouts a lot more about the spec of the car. Plus, it’s not as easy as pushing buttons - and I feel many of us driving enthusiasts do prefer buttons to screens on the move.

3) Even though they’ve indicated that there may be some petrol offerings alongside the electric Macan, they’ve not promised a GTS and, if you think about it, they might not do it due to their EV commitment for the mid-2020s.

It’s up to you but it may be worth thinking a bit more about. I managed to scoop what is probably one of the last slots for the current GTS with the mid-2021 update on the horizon.

And with mandatory speed limit alarm thingys coming from 2022-2024 and greater electrification/regulation, I think people will look more to the freedoms of the old school through good examples of the “last breed” - top gear, in their review, reckoned this current GTS will be the last of its kind by using this phrase.

All the best, whatever you decide 😁

^^^^ Lots of of sense here, particularly about the glossy black surfaces and lack of buttons. Interesting to note that the Taycans I’ve peered at have moved away from glossy black surfaces to a large extent, which is a good sign!

Also agree about the ever more intrusive ‘driver assistance’ systems which either have to be switched off at every start or can’t be switched off at all! Keeps me thinking I’ll be hanging on to my present cars for a very long time!

On the 20" the ride with standard fit PASM is firmer than the same set up on the S. I used to run my SD in the mid setting (one red light on) most of the time/ as my personal default setting. With the GTS I run it with no light on to achieve a similar ride comfort.

The consensus is that with 21" then Air is desirable.....unless you've come from something like an Audi RS, BMW Msport or similar and used to a hard ride.

Thanks I run my Diesel S on the same PASM setting as you describe. My wife suffers from motion sickness but is fine on that Sport setting.

My dealer didn’t seem to know much about the further update this year

I’ve only seen it in autocar so surprised you can order one already

If your wife suffers from motion sickness then avoid air suspension, there's a good thread on here somewhere about one owner (Semerka, I think) who had to change her Macan because of this.

My wife suffers from motion sickness, and the air suspension does not effect her in the slightest in fact she says the ride is the most comfortable car she has been in.

It was Bramptonmel actually. She swapped to a Turbo PP with steel springs and was fine then. (viewtopic.php?f=20&t=4628)

There's been much discussion about whether or not air suspension can feel a bit 'floaty'. Some feel it, some don't. I can feel it slightly in the softest setting but not in position 2 so that's where it stays.
