I see a lot of roof rails in forum photos.

Do people add them only to use them? Lots of bike/roof boxes out there?

Or is there some kind of cosmetic desire?

My Macan has roof rails but, as it was a used car, I didn’t have a choice, however, I’m very pleased they were fitted, as I think they enhance the appearance, especially on a side view.....but, I have no need for them, as I’m not planning on carrying bikes or a roof box.

Thanks for all of the advice I've been given I have today locked my spec for a March-build Macan GTS.

I chopped off a few things (storage pack, comfort lighting, surround parking) that individually were fairly inconsequential price-wise but did mount up, but am still delighted with my Spec and cannot wait for collection!!

I specified roof rails and also bought the bike rack as I plan to take my bike on occasional holidays. Haven’t used it yet however due to lockdown! Besides the practical reason, I think the black rails look great.

I don’t think I’ll be using mine when the car gets here. I rarely filled the boot of the RS4

I think it’s a good practical option, given that it can’t be retro-fitted, and accentuates the stance of the car on the road by highlighting its width. I’ve also gone for 21” wheels so

Did you consider specifying the door handles in black?

I did seriously consider it because they look amazing, but in the end I decided to go with body coloured and will get the handles wrapped to allow flexibility.

Purely cosmetic for me because I think they add nicely to the black/crayon contrast and also they can’t be retrofitted so I thought they might be a benefit for resale.

My GTS spec is finalised, with a build date of April, link to spec is below.
We use a small local detailer in Grimsby, Obsessions Car Detailing, both my current Macan and my wife’s JCW Mini Countryman were done when new.
She gets her new electric Mini on Friday and it’s booked in for his first available slot for detailing in a couple of weeks time. Once I get a confirmed delivery date I’ll book the GTS in to be detailed too. Worth every penny and much cheaper than the dealers offer.

A lot of people ruining their GTS cars by mucking about with the wheels. Sorry, but the standard black Spyder wheels make the GTS a proper GTS. They look stunning on the car (especially on lighter paint jobs) and, as with other 20" wheels, provide the perfect GTS handling.
