This comes back to the issue is the some on the forum describe the different versions of the Macan is different ways, judging the rear light bar 2019 edition as just a facelift of the very first Macan and the second generation Macan will be the EV. However, it could be argued that changes made in 2017 were also a facelift so it all gets very confusing. However, Gen 2 was adopted by some in the press for the model year 2019 onwards. In practice, the only safe way is my model year but then 2014 -2016 have a lot in common as do 2017 to 2018 and then as do 2019 to 2021 and there is some advantage in "grouping so you go the 14 to16 being Gen 1, 17 to 18 Gen 1 facelift, 19 to 21 Gen 2 and model year 22 i f the buttons change happens onwards Gen 2 faceliftRarecolour wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 2:14 pmNot even the gen 2 that's currently out?

Ah ok, from what a couple of OPC's said, the new one will be called the Macan 3. So can only guess they class the current one as Gen2?
I'm not down with all the Porsche talk yet.

I think it would sensible depend on the size of the changes. between 2014 and 2019 there were substantial changes to all of engines, suspension and dashboard. If just "buttons and minor "styling" changes then I would say facelift personally but if more then Gen3Rarecolour wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 4:22 pm Ah ok, from what a couple of OPC's said, the new one will be called the Macan 3. The generation 2 Macan is expected to be announced later in 2021 or even 2022. The current car is a generation 1 Macan.

Generation 1 (all on the same platform):

95B.1 and 95B.2 is how dealers and [other] Porsche forums refer to the car. They're both generation 1 cars. It would be great if this forum could do the same; I'm surprised at the amount of confusion it causes.

I'm speculating that the upcoming generation 1 facelift may be referred to as the 95B.3. This car is expected based on the spy photos. It's expected to keep the petrol generation 1 car up to date while the all-electric generation 2 is launched alongside it.
This is no different to, for example, the previous generation 911 being referred to as the 991.1 and 991.2 to differentiate the original and facelifted models.

Ha as I thought the word generation which is a language convenience term is not mentioned, all three of these sites are "club" or non official sites.PaulR wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 11:07 am95B.1 and 95B.2 is how dealers and [other] Porsche forums refer to the car. I am not disputing the 95.1 numberings etc. All I am saying is that in a forum where we need to be clear about which of the model types we are commenting on the convenience adopted by others on the forum, some salesmen and some of the press at the current time is a clear differentiation. I would agree to say 95.1 etc would remove any doubt but to some lay members would not be easily understood. I also think EV Macan is clearer than Gen X where x is 2 3 or 4 Macan when it comes to clarity.
Some of the part suppliers seem to like the approach for clarity .e.g.

At the present time we cannot even be certain the EV vehicle will be "Macan" as for example the Taycan is really an Ev Panamera replacement. If, as expected, the ICE and EV are to be sold alongside each other for a few years a different name would make sense.

It is used but, as you suggest, we shouldn't necessarily believe Wikipedia.
Not sure why this is causing so much debate! Is it because Porsche marketing refers to the facelift car as a 'Macan II'? It really is as simple as this:
Generation (Type) - Years - Porsche Marketing Name - Forum/Techie/Geek Name
First generation Macan (Type 95B) - 2014 to 2018 - Macan - 95B.1
First generation Macan (Type 95B) - 2019 to 2021 - Macan II - 95B.2
Call the current car a Macan II, a 95B.2 or a facelifted model, but don't call it generation 2 because it's simply not.
As you point out, the 'generation 2 Macan' may not even be called a Macan. Until we know for sure, it can be referred to that for now.
As much as I like the Macan name, I wonder if a different name would be better? If they keep the Macan name, then it means those still buying the petrol models are buying the previous generation car. (Think what's happening with the Fiat 500.) However if they change the name, those buying petrol models are technically still purchasing the latest Macan!
BTW we're off-topic so we'll get a smack-bottom from the administrators unless we give this a rest!
