Semiconductor Shortage

Just had the call to say our Macan S we have on order which was to complete build on Friday is being pushed back to end of July. Porsche have stopped all production of Macan due to the semiconductor shortage. Build completion on ours is now showing Monday, but they are saying these will be updated in due course.

Anyone else had the call?

Had your Macan S entered the factory or was Friday the date your OPC had given you? As you can see from the picture below, mine seems to have entered the factory, so will hopefully get built.

I've just emailed the dealer to ask for copy of same screenshot. Friday 30th April was date they said yesterday morning was the estimated completion date - so suggested it was also in production.

From what I gather they received email last night to say Porsche was stopping all Macan production but that's as much detail as he had.

When he checked this morning the completion date had changed from 30th to 3rd May.

I'm really hoping that if it was already in production they will complete, otherwise that's next level of just in time manufacturing :(

Just had a reply...

"Yes, this is one of a few screens we work with.

Vehicle Entry to Body Shop was yesterday's date (27/04) for your Macan. So it looks like it has started.

The next line (CP8) is the date of production completion, yours is now showing 07/05.
"

You are two days ahead of me then, hopefully you might have better luck.

Out of interest, when did the two of you place your orders? I've been waiting since September and still not got a lockdown date. Build was allegedly June, but that's not going to happen by the sounds of things.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but clearly I needed to speak to more than 1 OPC! Didn't imagine there would be such a difference in timescales. So disappointed.

I see the FT saying Mini production has ceased and BMW shut one of their German plants, all due to the semiconductor shortage.

FT reckons VW group overall production will be about 100 k vehicles down because of the issue, 400k vehicles across European manufacturers and about 1,200 k vehicles worldwide lost.

Ford has said loss to their profits will be $2.5bn having shut plants in US and Europe
