In the wage dispute in the metal and electrical industry in Berlin, Brandenburg and Saxony, IG Metall has called for all-day warning strikes on Sunday and Monday. In Saxony, the workers in the Leipzig plants of the car companies Porsche and BMW have been called to a warning strike since late Sunday evening or from midnight. The Clarios plant in Zwickau will also be on strike from this morning.
Goal: Alignment with the western level
The union announced that 30 years after reunification, the aim was to bring eastern working conditions into line with western standards with a 35-hour week. According to the union, employees in the eastern federal states work three hours more a week for the same salary. Calculated on the hourly rate, the difference in wages is 8.5 percent, which IG Metall demands in a "tariff adjustment allowance". The demand for this adjustment money is still open in the metal and electrical industry.
In so far unsuccessful negotiations, the employers had insisted on accepting the pilot degree for the metal and electrical industry achieved in North Rhine-Westphalia without any further harmonization. This has now happened in all other tariff areas, so that the IG Metall executive board accepted the deals including the VW company wage agreement and thus made them effective. The decision on the east warning strikes applies until the next board meeting on May 4th, as the union announced on Friday.
