Nelladrahcir wrote: Thu Aug 26, 2021 7:17 am I think the original question was if you had the choice of two identical cars one registered 2021, the other 2022 which one would you buy. Identical cars.

Surely you would buy the 2022 every day of the week?

Introducing vastly different mileages changes the whole question.
Why though

Most people would buy the 2022 car as opposed to the 2021 car, assuming that was the only difference, as there will be a perception that it is a newer car.
It could even be that the 2022 car might have been built before the 2021 car but most folk wouldn't think that.
The altered registrations only spread out sales a bit. There has always been a measure of people who wait until the actual new year.

I’m afraid I disagree with your thinking, as I think most people would compare the condition, servicing record, options fitted and mileage of both cars before just choosing the perceived ‘youngest’ car.

For 3 or 4 days you would wait for a 22 reg car. Also minor issue of you aren't wasting most of a months road tax.

if the cars were identical you would choose 22 over 21

AllanG and others, with the greatest of respect the question is about one car or two identical cars being registered in 2021 or 2022. Identical being very relevant to the question.

If they were different cars in different conditions or mileages then that would be a completely different question/thread altogether.

I may be wrong here but didn't they just announce the that the new plates would be a '71' rather than a '21'?

On that basis the 71 registrations would be of interest the average 50 year old celebrating half a century on planet earth!?

Equally 72 the same next year for your birth year watch, sorry I meant car.

👍 quite right.

I think, though that from this you can see from the range of views that people are influenced by different things and there will never be unanimous agreement. That doubles the weight of "Just get it and enjoy it"
