Welcome to the UK's best forum for the Porsche Macan.

So you've either got a curiosity of what this model is all about or you're looking to order and the options are confusing you! So, what do the members of this forum order with their cars and why?

Check out the excellent survey Justin did first and you'll see the breakdown of options and vehicles we chose: http://survey.senseconsultants.com/r/90 ... 9.58746612

For improving the driving experience:

PASM Air or standard.
Helps to smooth out the ride (Especially with the larger wheels).

Bi-Xenon or LED headlights
The standard halogens are regarded as a bit poor by some. Bi-Xenon brings PDLS which dynamically shifts the headlights left and right to follow the road as you turn at speed. As well as lighting junctions as you turn with auxiliary halogens. LED's are regarded as whiter and come with PDLS+, which actively lights junctions in conjunction with the Sat Nav.

14 or 18 way seats (Or the standard seats in the GTS.)
These bring more comfort, driver memory, electric steering column, wing mirror dipping on reversing, and electric passenger seat. Sat Nav Likely to become standard in the future this is close to a must have option for a car like this and good for resale. Along with the Panoramic Sunroof its the most requested item in resale.

Connect + (now standard)
Brings all the connect apps to the car. So google earth, live POI, traffic updates, live rerouting, petrol prices, WiFi for the passengers plus apps to connect the car data to your phone to check its location. Can work with a built in SIM or tethering.

Surround camera or reversing camera.
The surround camera gives a full 360 overhead view for easier parking. The reversing camera is just for the rear. Both make parking easier as the visibility in the Macan is a bit restricted. Interior lighting pack This replaces all interior bulbs with LED's and adds vanity lamps, reading lamps, and ambient lighting in the cabin.

Driver memory (if 14 or 18 way seats not chosen).
This adds the memory for the electric seats with buttons for the profiles. It also adds mirror dipping on the passenger side when reversing.

For resale (or because you like them):

Heated seats and/or heated steering wheel
Something that the resale market look for on a Porsche, and also comfy in winter.

Panoramic sun roof
A very personal choice as it does add weight and takes a few CM off the rear head space. But lightens a dark interior and adds a touch of luxury. Lots of happy customers have this. And reports from dealers buying this vehicle say they knock money off if it isn't fitted. Alongside sat nav its the most requested item in resale.

19-21" wheels
Wheels are entirely personal to you. Some people want the full 21" sports classics in black for road presence and ease of cleaning. Others want the 19" for less road noise and softer ride. Go with what you're happy with.

Metallic paint
Another entirely personal choice, but for resale metallic paint is desirable. Volcano Grey is very popular on the forum, but a few of us are in #TeamRed and #TeamBlue!

Leather packages
Add a touch of luxury but can come in pricey. Leather could be worth it for the resale market

Not Vital, but makes sense to most

Spare wheel
This is a cheap option to add at point of build. It goes to over £500 to retro fit. Porsche assist can come and fit it for you and get you back on the road. Otherwise you do get supplied "goo" but there are stories where a can didn't do the job! So we tend to recommend the spare with a few cans of goo in the boot to cover all bases.

Smoking package
A weird one for the non smokers but mainly adds a cover to the Ash/Coin tray in the centre console (as well as adding 2 cigarette lighters for the 12V ports) and generally looks nicer. But be aware that it also now deletes the 2 usb ports in the rear for another ashtray and cigarette lighter.

75L tank
Its a free upgrade, so why not allow your car to take more fuel!

Other options that users on the forum pick for personal choices are:

Power Steering Plus
Lightens the steering during parking / low speed (This can always be added or taken away by software update later though)

Privacy glass
makes the rear windows a much darker tint for privacy or styling reasons. But some think it makes the car look like a van.

Sports chrono
adds Sports Plus to the car. sharper gear changes, tighter suspension (with PASM). Some think its a step too far for an SUV, or are happy with base speed.

Roof rails
These cannot be retro fitted. So you need to decide when ordering. Some think it makes the car have more road presence and allows extra carry space. Others think a sporty car shouldn't have those lines on the roof.

Rear airbags

These add extra airbags in the rear compartment for those safety conscious. But the car already has a very good safety rating.

Sports design package & mirrors
These 2 options ensure the cleanest looking macan. Standard on the GTS, this removes most of the plastic on the lower skirts and removes the front lip. the Sports Design mirrors are optional extras just to get the last of the black plastic removed.

Side blades in carbon/exterior colours
The side blades are supposed to echo the 918. But some think it looks like those on the Citroen cactus. An option is to have them in carbon or the same body colour. The standard black is lava black and some think they are harder to clean.

ACC with PAS active safe
Uses a radar sensor to maintain a specified distance from the vehicle in front by gently braking the vehicle as required, even down to a halt. Selectable cruising speed range: 18-130 mph. Includes Porsche Active Safe (PAS), which emits an audible warning, briefly tugs on the brakes and applies more braking force in the event of a sudden decrease in distance to the vehicle in front. Some rely on it for a comfortable drive, others maintain the porsche is there to be driven.

BOSE
adds a subwoofer to the boot and extra speakers in the doors and dash for a surround sound system. Some are happy with the standard audio. Something to test.

This list is not exhaustive and pretty much every item on and off it has an argument for and against having it! The key to remember is the base car is a decent spec and you'd be happy with it. But spend £8-10k on options and you can get a really nice specced car that suits your needs. Just set your budget, ask any questions you have, and we're sure you'll become a really happy member of the community!

Thank you

You need to correct the part about roof rails where it says they can't be factory fitted. They can be retro fitted I know you meant but may confuse new owners.

Also should make clearer that many trade buyers demand a pano roof on an SUV or knock back the price if it does not have one. Any SUV I have sold I have been asked has it nav and pano roof. Anything else Is a bonus.

Great post Evil and good info especially for some newcomers... maybe also for some old timers too Wink

A suggestion to add to the above as this has caused some confusion / many questions on other posts

Power Steering Plus - Lightens the steering during parking / low speed (This can always be added or taken away by software update later though)

The bit about PAS is wrong. It's ACC that does the speeding up and slowing down.

Generally, this list would be a lot better if you provide links to sources of discussion rather than make your summary judgement.

Links to the online manual might be handy too.

And keep it upto date with all the changes happening.

And put in a disclaimer so nobody goes after you for making them buy (or not buy) an item they later regret!

Good post.
It will give the first-time reader a heads-up as to what is available and provide some explanation. From there individuals can investigate further if they so require. Thumbs Up
