Sorry to gatecrash another post but I can’t pair my remote with my brand less garage door opener. So I am contemplating buying this:

And connecting it up. Do you think this will work with homelink?

Yes I have and I had to fit a Homelink receiver to my garage door controller, very simple to fit it is essentially a make switch that connects to the controller.

The website lists compatible controllers http://homelink.com/compatible/eu/garage

so if you are yet to install the door you can use this to ensure you get one then you wont need the adaptor.

I read on here that it was a fiddle to set up so didn't get it. I have electric gates and stuck the remote onto the inside of the door pocket with double sided sticky pads. It is ideal - always in the same place and to my mind, just as good as homelink with a button in the roof. And saved £200!

Works fine in mine, both for rolling and static receivers. Had it in BMW, RRS and the Macan. No remotes lying around that can be stolen.

I bought my Chinese receiver, installed it and apart from it being a bit temperamental when operating it seemed to work. Pairing was simple as the car learnt the remote code (static) from the supplied fob. However, I then started to suffer from random garage door openings. As this was a little disconcerting I disconnected it and it all settled down. So I assume I had a faulty relay.
I left it for a bit & then eventually bought the homelink add on Davewf recommended along with a couple of compatibile fobs.
The unit is night & day better built then the Chinese rubbish & works perfectly with the paired fobs.

My question is do I just pair the car buttons with the remote fob or do I need to use the learn button within the homelink box. Or do I learn the remote code from the fob THEN use the learn button on the control?
My car is at the OPC at present so I can’t test, however I thought I’d ask in preparation for her return.

Thanks guys. As I love gadgets and gizmo’s this has been a fun thing to do.

I followed the instructions here http://euro.chamberlain.de/homelink/pr433_4.pdf only took 15 mins to sort. I did have to set the jumper to constant as the short pulse was too short my my receiver. That confused me for bit.

I’m having no luck pairing the car and this homelink box. My car is different as you set the buttons from the pcm rather than holding all three buttons down to enter learn mode.

I am pairing the button with a remote that I bought & previously paired with the homelink box and works well with it.
It then identifies the rolling codes from the remote and tells me to sync with the homelink box.
For this I have pressed the learn button inside of the homelink box and then I press the roof button two or three times. I can see the led blinks and the learn button light goes off within the homelink box. However my door doesn’t budge.
I have tried syncing without pressing the link button within the homelink box and still it won’t budge.
However, whichever way around I have tried it I can get the led’s within the homelink box to light up when I press the buttons in the car, but it won’t control the garage door. Yet the remote I bought & paired lights the Led’s but moves the garage door.

Aargh!!!!

I seem to recall having to hold the button in the car that learnt the code from the remote for several seconds after it lights up to initially get the door to open then it all started working as i expected.

The fact you have a homelink system in the car and a homelink receiver would make me take the receiver in to the dealer and make them pair it, you can tell its working because you will hear the click of the relay. If they cannot get it working they will have to get Porsche to sort it under warranty, after all you paid for this .

That’s not such a bad idea Dave. I was contemplating ringing homelink helpline but it looks to be an international number and I have spent enough already. I’ve found a you tube video on pairing the panamera which is a very similar method to mine & that suggests doing things a little different to the manual to actually get it working. I’ll try what you recommend & try the you tube way and if all else fails back to the dealer I go.
Wish me luck.

Being a bit of a tech nerd, I didn't specify Homelink because I hate proprietary stuff. Instead, I use geolocation (on my iPhone) to signal my front gate when I am about half a mile from home. That way, the gate is open when I arrive rather than having to stop in the road and potentially hold up the traffic in a narrow lane. Costs a lot less too!
