I'm planning on buying a new Macan S for next May June 2018 but I'm worried the update will come soon after.
Should I wait?

Welcome

Great choice.

You do not need to lockdown your specification until 6 weeks prior to the actual build so you do have time to see what develops and in any case your deposit is fully refundable up until lockdown.

Wait periods probably about 5 months but maybe a bit more for a petrol S.

Porsche are in a bit of a turmoil at present due to their diesel engines, emissions and DPF issues.

The new Cayenne was publicallly shown on the 29th Aug and as it is the Frankfurt Motor Show in a couple of weeks that maybe where the updated Macan will be shown, Geneva is next March so if not Frankfurt mabe Geneva.

We are not expecting much externally other than the rear lightbar a la Panamera and new Cayenne, internally many hope for new dash with better tech on a larger centre screen, but who knows what will be.

What has your OPC said about wait times?

Suggest you also ring a few more dealers to ee what they have to say.

Having seen the Cayenne promotional video with it's worryingly distracting touch screen functions, I'm hoping that the dash will not change that much. Better tech yes!

EDIT: I should have said, 'better tech' but only if it works reliably, if what I read about PCM4 niggles are not solved!

I think it is inevitable that the 12.3" central touch screen as first seen in the Panamera will find its way into the Macan, whether at facelift next year, or in the all-new model at a later date.

Having driven now nearly 8,000 miles in my Panamera, I am getting on with the new dash/screen layout very well. I had concerns too originally, but I do not find it a distraction.

The most commonly used functions on the go do not require me to touch the screen (e.g. changing driving mode, auto stop/start, cabin temperature, fan speed, volume/mute etc). :)

Welcome, draig! :)

Fully agree with Col's reply. I too would be interested on your OPC's view of when the face lifted Macan will launch, if they express a view at all... :geek:

^^ Yes I think I probably need to reserve judgement on the touch interface until I have an extended play. Probably needs more than a short test drive to become comfortable, and a few months of ownership to become second nature.

P.S. Was just watching an Autogefuhl video review of the Tesla P100d. Talking about touch screens, I much prefer the Porsche approach to dashboard design:

Thank you for the welcome and the informative replies.

My OPC told me they have no idea when the Macan update will happen and there is a 5 to 6 months waiting time on a Macan S.

I'm booked in for a test drive next Sunday the 10th and to spec the car and pay the deposit.
