Recent spyshots look nothing like this stunner.

Agreed. The latest spy shots show Taycans that are still highly disguised and smothered with camouflage.

I predict it will receive an enthusiastic welcome when it is fully unveiled in all its glory :)

If Tesla can design a stunning EV then so can others.
Is that a photograph of a finished production model that one can go out and buy? :?

Mark Webber

The side profile looks nothing like the design Mission E

Its profile has to be that of the production version, yes it still has cammy on it but the front end is decidedly now like a Panny.

It would appear that way from what we can see, but what we can see is a mass of black tape at the back, the rear quarter lights, and most definitely all over the front. Also consider that the suicide rear doors were never going to see production; this one thing alone compromises the continuity along the flanks. Add ride height, stupidly proportioned wheels and arch clearance and I think it’s very difficult to draw a truly accurate comparison. Let’s wait a while longer before passing judgement.

+1. When fully unveiled, I think it'll be the best looking production EV on the market, by some margin. :geek:

No, but I have no doubt whatsoever that the final production version will look exactly the same. They might have to add door mirrors for compliance, but that's about all. Tesla are not constrained by the usual committee decision making processes, which can be a double edged sword but also refreshing.

Dandock wrote: Mon Sep 10, 2018 3:29 pm As the above issue was raised in another thread, should EVs designs be different and if so, in what way?
They should simply make use of their drivetrain layout i.e. short overhangs, large cabin space etc. They should also make use of their inherent aerodynamic advantage by not having huge front grilles etc. Tesla did both these things to good effect with class leading aero drag and class leading interior space. Jaguar compromised a bit with the iPace - it has the short overhangs, but not the interior space or ultra-low drag of a Tesla. EVs need to be built from the ground up to realise the full benefits of the technology. Most manufacturers (except oddly BMW, who appear to have back-peddled) seem to be going down that path with dedicated EV platforms.

On the inside, there's no need for conventional analogue instrument displays. You just need to know how fast you are going and how long you can go for. Having a cluster of pointless round dial gauges is not the way forward in an EV, but again that will take a while to sink in with some manufacturers. Nobody is going to buy a round iPad are they? Same goes for an over-sized, raised centre console with a massive gearstick poking out. All totally wasted space in an EV.
