Dash Cam
In about 2012, after seeing clips of that meteor coming down in Russia captured on dash cams and discovering that ever car in Russia is fitted with one I bought one direct from Korea and fitted it myself onto my car and I have moved that cam each new car since. It cost me peanuts to buy, was relatively easy to fit, it comes on as soon as anyone touches the car and runs continuously writing and overwriting onto an SD card. Of all the extras I can choose I am shocked that this optional extra is not available to me (the salesman had not idea that these existed, he thought they were all subscription based). Over the years it's paid for itself ten times over, luckily I have not had any accidents, but it's been there if I had and there have been lots of times when I've taken the card out and plugged it into my computer to review events that passed. I will want new one for the new Macan, and I am sure I could fit it myself but I'd rather not. I am sure I could buy one and get Porsche to fit it but I am also sure they would charge me a fortune to do it. I've looked on google for local auto electricians and some look a bit dodgy. Anyone got any recent experience?
This guy has a very good reputation, specialises in fitting dash cams to Tesla cars but I'm sure he could fit out your Macan, especially now Tesla has started using its own onboard cams to give dash cam functionality.

Depends on where you live but this company come recommended by friends that have used them. One with a Macan.
Been around for some time and the owner has a Macan (or did have a year or so ago from what I have been told)
Also they do all the checks one where to run the cables so there is no interference with DAB radio.
Very professional outfit. Worth a call and a drive.
They offer very decent cameras too front and back.
Like most things you get what you pay for.

I found this YouTube clip that suggests that anyone with a Q5 would recognised the Macan fuse box. I know one of the issues is identifying the correct fuse to tap into. I am sure between now and then I should be able to crack that, Pic is of the my Q5 box when I was fitting it

My write up tells you which fuses to use, but you should check in your manual if they are suitable, together with a meter check.Fairynuff wrote: ↑Sat Jan 05, 2019 4:36 pmPaul wrote: ↑Sat Jan 05, 2019 4:11 pm Many on here have done their own installation with great success......

Having had a number of dashcams in all the families cars switching to the WiFi enabled blackvue, I cant believe how much better it is than the competitors

My only concern is that you be careful with your warranty. I’ve heard Porsche can become very stubborn should an electrical issue arise & you’ve tapped into their wiring.
Not speaking from experience here, just what I’ve garnered over the years.
My advice would be use a piggyback fuse holder and unplug it from the fuse box every time it goes back to the OPC.
Out of sight, out of mind.

Definitely one of those "everybody knows" things, but I wonder if we could collect any direct experience of warranty issues in this forum?smithy37 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 07, 2019 6:55 am My only concern is that you be careful with your warranty. I believe there would be trouble, but only because of statements like yours (and now mine!) but it doesn't make it true.
TBH, I wouldn't trust any anecdotal claims from Porsche technicians either - without a precedent or a policy statement, it's still just hearsay.
