Hi everyone.
Firstly thanks for all the useful content. It really has proved to be useful and enabled me to configure the spec and place my order. I should be picking up my S in a couple of weeks (apparently). Order placed in June.
So ....I have a few questions which will help me with my current phase of this purchase process:

1. Who are the most competitive insurers at the moment? I think I am reading (in the forum) that NFU are and they offer a gap insurance for first year. Dealer price £599....seems high

2. Should I buy tyre and alloy insurance through the dealer or get it elsewhere? I have done some research.....and not many companies are offering to cover 21” alloys. Dealer price £550

3. dealer offering Gen3 Glasscoat for £399. I think this is a really good price, but there are hardly any comments on here about this product. I am told the guys at the dealership have been trained and all that stuff and fully prep the car before application. Plus it comes with a five year guarantee.

Again thanks for all the information on this forum. It really is brilliant. I will be sure to add my experiences on here too.

Personally I would avoid any extras from the OPC, you can generally do better elsewhere - if you need them at all.

I’ve found LV very competitive for insurance. I’ve just paid £290 for my new Macan S (max NCD, retired, rural, £600 excess).

Congrats on the imminent arrival of your Macan S! :)

I too would generally pass on most Porsche ‘extras’, as they earn a massive profit margin for the OPC, so are consequently not normally great value for money.

Regarding the various insurances (wheel, tyre, gap, dent, scratch etc) I tend to self-insure, and that’s worked out well so far!

Ah, when I said ‘self-insure’ I actually take the risk myself. So I save the money I would have paid for wheel, tyre and gap insurance, so I have a ‘pot’ of those savings, should I need it at a later date should I kerb an alloy etc. Touch wood, nothing to claim for so far in 3.5 years of Porsche ownership. :).

1) LV and NFU

2) Definitely no, the insurers pay vey high rates of commission to garages and their salesmen. Should be far better to go direct.

3) Personal decision. Some argue well worth paying more for specialist detailer who will give better results

I've just got my renewal through LV too. And as an extra bonus, I went through the Quidco cash back site. And this I've found very good. I will look forward to receiving the cash, when the cooling off period has expired.

Here in the rural North-East, NFU has consistently offered the most competitive product on my Macans on each of the past 4 renewals - and yes, I do a complete trawl of all insurers each year to check. They are Which Recommended, offer Motor Legal Protection as standard and very important, cover the replacement of new cars up to 2 years old if the car is stolen or written-off. Most insurers only offer 1 year. Overall, I have found them excellent - but I have yet to make any claim!

Having said that, LV clearly offer a very good product at a competitive price as many people testify.

Insurance underwriting is a black art. I suggest you do the comparisons for your postcode and see which company is best for you. I know that if I keyed in an urban postcode 4 miles away, then NFU would not be the cheapest but their overall package might warrant a small premium.

I agree that you should be saying no to the OPC deals offered. If you want to insure, you can find less expensive but better coverage elsewhere. I do exactly the same as the Wing Commander suggests i.e. self-insure those additional risks.

+1 for self-insuring tyres and rims.....I’m significantly “ in profit” having had one puncture (plugged for £25) in the last 4 yrs. I am aware now that that is the kiss of death......

The saying goes that if you can’t afford the risk out of cash flow, then insure it......
