I am due to change my first Macan soon and I’d appreciate others comments and suggestions.
My diesel has been fantastic, covered a mere 20k and immaculate with reasonable spec.
The local dealer has offered me £29k trade in for it with a £4k shortfall in the settlement figure. I can hold on to it for a fourth year and guaranteed future value is £27k.
If I consider changing shortly for a reasonable £55k new one on PCP finance, and fit my budget, I’ll have to put almost £13k deposit and the £4k shortfall meaning a total of around £17k and I’m just not sure if its really worth it only to be told in 3 years, ‘Ah well sir! Nobody wants a petrol car now so our trade in price reflects the depreciation’
Should I simply hang on for another year? The £29k seems awfully low when lots of promises were made about ‘lowest depreciating brand and we’ll look after you sir!’ What do you think?
Is my dealer offering a realistic value?
What are similar cars fetching on Autotrader?
Pop your reg number in and you will get an idea of value. Alternatively “we buy any car” will also give a snap-shot value today.
(Don’t know what you paid for it but you look to have a + 50% residual after 3 years which you won’t get anywhere else.

Similar 2017 SDs seem to be retailing in the mid to high ‘£30Ks so a dealer p/x of £29 K does seem there or thereabouts with their £6 - £7 K margin.....

Thanks
I paid £55k.
Average autotrader sales prices of similar age and mileage and mixed spec is £40k. WBAC.com is £32k and autotrader is £35k.
Seems a no brainer that I try to sell it private.

BMW 3lit X3's of a similar age are less than £20k trade-in and retailing for around £22 to £23K. so the brand point could still well be valid.
I must say if you like the diesel, I would keep at least another 2 years assuming the if you are extending/renewing the PCP the deal is reasonable

cat5236 - what month and year was your SD registered and what is the full spec? Do you have any bodywork etc damage or components that are due for replacement that are affecting its p/ex value?
My OPC has offered me a much better trade in price than your £29k. Circa 62% of it's new cost. My SD will be 3yrs old in May and to date has covered 18,500 miles and has been faultless.

I must say, I would expect a 3 year old SD at sub 20k miles to bring in c.£35k as a trade-in at an OPC, if it has a decent spec? At £55k though, the options aren't much over list, so perhaps this explains the low ball offer?
Edit to add these as an indicator.

The lack of neither would not stop me buying the vehicle if I was in the market for an SD of that age but some would say the weakness of the spec is the wheel size and no pano roof, new cost say £3.5 k. Even if pano roof is supposed to retain full value, bearing in the mind the ability to pick up wheelsets here and on Ebay, I would say max justifiable deduction below "perfect spec" of say £2knsm3 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 3:05 pm I must say, I would expect a 3 year old SD at sub 20k miles to bring in c.£35k as a trade-in at an OPC, if it has a decent spec?
