If you don't need to change then just keep the current car and enjoy it for another year or two. £17k is a lot of money to put in for the latest and greatest? Prices are definitely not what they used to be.

I have changed many cars over the years and the trade in value has almost always been a shock. You are inclined to do the man maths in your head having looked at the kind of money dealers are asking for cars similar to the one your trading, and then the kind of mark up they all want comes as a right kick in the b***s. Que a few days readjusting you unrealistic expectations before you finally decide if you can stomach the real chance cost.

I purchased my 1 year old fantastic spec MacanDS from an OPC in 2016.
I Will have owned it 4 years this year and given the above posts i wont be trading anytime soon.
Its paid for so no finance and thus I’ll wait until they go EV and maybe the depreciation will have calmed somewhat , enough to consider a part-ex. Average is 5k miles per year so will still be a good buy for someone in a couple of years.

Not interested in being shafted by an OPC in trade in values anytime soon, suffer enough of their shafting on servicing costs.

The macanDS is a fantastic vehicle to drive so not sure £25-£30k difference for a new one would increase the experience by that much.

Hmmm I have a similar dilemma. When I bought the car on a 4 year PCP I was planning to pay it off at the 2 year point but because of problems with the leaking pano roof I decided not to pay off the car. Am now at the 3 year point with a decent spec GTS that has 13,000 miles on it. The trade in price is currently circa £40,000 and a final payment of £38,500 is due in Mar 21. By the time next year comes around I suspect the car will be worth less than the final payment.

Whilst the Macan is a lovely car do I really want to pay more for a car than it is worth? Another Macan, without pano roof, could be an option but I will then end up spaffing a huge amount up the wall on a car that will be old tech very soon. Alternatively, the fully electric Kia Niro and Hyundai equivalent are looking attractive; fully electric, decent range, good tech and spec, for the same cost that I would incur by paying off my current Macan. Oh yes, and a decent warranty to boot by both manufacturers.

Heart is saying Macan, head is saying don’t bother with another cooking Porsche......

If you want a Niro or equivalent in a years time, then you probably need to talk to one of their dealers now and get your name on a list!!!

They have recently uped their production volumes on these cars and the waiting time is down to three or four months

Here is the final conclusion. I was asked about trading in my 'beautiful' Macan today, here was my response:

My wife and I decided to buy our first Porsche not just on the basis of the brand, but also we were told by sales that it was the least depreciating car and was likely to have some equity in its value when we bought our next one. Little did I know the plot you had put together.

Thanks for saying ‘beautiful’, indeed it was. We started looking for our new Macan last year when our existing Macan was 3 years old. Our Porsche Reading salesman was polite, buy said ’Ahh! it’s a diesel and no one wants a diesel any more’ so his valuation reflected this and he offered a part exchange value that matched the FUTURE finance balance. So not only was there no equity, it was now in negative equity early. (Hence the earlier posts) His advice was to keep it for another year, then hand it back. We kept it.

This year, anticipating a build and delivery for around July 28 (our 42nd wedding anniversary) On the Monday morning in March 21, bright and early, I contacted Porsche Swindon to start the process. I explained our situation, I even took a video of my Macan to show how ‘beautiful’ it was. The guy said he was part of the management team and would pass on my details to your sales team for follow up. Alas, Friday came and still no one called, indeed, no one has ever responded.

So I contacted Porsche Tewkesbury on the Friday afternoon. Same thing again and very good – he responded within the hour with the figures. Trade in price would be exactly the same as the finance balance. No equity and as my new car specification had black wheels, my deposit needed to be 25% greater.
Suddenly, out of the blue, Porsche Swindon called. Yes!, I thought, three months late but finally responding to my call. But sadly, No! was the response, he was following up on car owners coming up to 4 years old who might be changing. I explained the story. To be fair, he was very apologetic and I felt sure his reaction was genuine and I gave him an opportunity to quote me. His quote was the same as Porsche Tewkesbury, so we did not get any further.

Looking at sales from Porsche dealers and other sales, I struggle to comprehend the price difference. Porsche Sales were telling me my car needed new tyres at 25k miles; yet with 4-5 mm of tread, this was in excess of your sales standard. Similarly, my car needed a service, No! this was not due for some months. If you choose to do this, why should I pay? The best was, ‘ahh! we have a big showroom and lots of overheads’ Therefore we can only part exchange for the outstanding balance and yet – you were selling cars like mine for £40k plus. Honestly, it needed nothing doing to it – not even a valet before it was put on your forecourt. Is this what car sales is really like?

I decided to try to sell the car private. I paid my outstanding balance and advertised it in Autotrader for a moderate price. Indeed, I think it was the third cheapest given the specification, age, mileage etc. One weekend, three calls, two offers and the buyer purchased on Monday and collected on Friday. We bartered over £100!! there were one or two small stone chips, so I reduced my price by £100, but added £100 on as the car had a full tank of fuel. Final sale price, almost £10000 greater than Porsche valuations.

We now have the equity we were promised when we bought the car. We may still have another Macan, however at the moment we cannot specify 14 way electric seats and with the new model coming out soon, we will wait and see if it makes good sense.

Conclusion – don’t believe anything the salesman says; the trade in part exchange value will always be the finance outstanding and will be reflective of Porsche outlay; don’t buy a petrol because in four years no one will want one; Porsche Swindon do not get back in touch.

I have purchased two Macans from OPC Swindon. Sales Exec, Jordan Wilmott's communication throughout by tel and email was exceptionally good with both purchases.

When I bought the first one in 2017, I had visited the OPCs in Bristol, Tewksbury, Bournemouth and Reading as well as Swindon. The latter was head & shoulders better, more proffessional, responsive and a gave a better trade-in value on my Mercedes E-class coupe.

3 years on they gave me 62% of the price I had paid for my Macan SD. Best residual value I've ever had on any car, but still a £20k difference between new and p/ex.

My new GTS was due for delivery to me on 25.03.2021. The initial Corona virus lockdown on 23 March scuppered that.....but they stored it in their showroom - secure and under cover during the closure period. Their security guard even photographed my new car and emailed the photos of it to me, when all the other staff were off site as a consequence of the pandemic.

I put my SD on SORN for April & May. On 1 June they delivered my GTS inside a sanitised transporter to my home using a specialised 3rd party company. They collected my SD too (did not charge for that service). The new car's road tax increased from 1 April, but they absorbed that cost and did not register it until 1 June. Also fitted GB symbol number plates, at no extra charge, and set up Car Connect.

In my multiple car buying experience, over many years, I think that OPC Swindon are exceptionally good.
