Just wonder if anyone can help? Has anyone been given good used Values from the dealerships ?
I contacted mine today and they told me the car was worth around £40k , I know depreciation on new cars but over £16k in just over a year seems harsh with 21 k mileage

Use the valuation tool on auto trader. That will give a good indication of the value.
In you particular case the higher than average mileage will add extra to the cars devaluation.

Used car market is falling quickly for many products. For Porsche...

1. seasonal given high end cars drop off in 2nd half or July and through August before picking up again in 2nd week of September.
2. some OPCs are very over-stocked with the value of their forecourts over their limits whch restricts buying ability / want despite not having many new cars to sell.
3. overall high end market is dropping fairly quickly at the moment with the continued economic uncertainty.

Look at OPC network used cars for sale, similar to yours and knock £8k off. Should give you a fairly good idea?

So, ignoring points 2 an 3, is there an optimum time to swap?

Did some calculations a few years back, it was then with my wife's car, where we replaced for same 3 times and the calc was
: keep for 10 years v replace at 3-4 years
: cash purchase so no funding costs
: c 8000 miles pa
: add in servicing, tyres, brakes, exhaust, breakdown cover. MOT's
: plus a 10% factor of capital cost for unknown major failure
The biggest unknown is the repair factor but with Porsche you could use the continued extended warranty costs, it is then really a case of trade in value and replacement cost, interestingly though in this example there was very little in it, the early replacement was marginally more expensive but just a round of drinks (or 2😉). However, doing the same calc on purchasing a one year old premium value car and keeping until 10 was considerably more cost effective based on the first year hit. All depends on the brand, couldn't do that with Macans when first released of course.

Bit long winded but just to finish, used to lease 600 vehicles with all manner of models from £13 to £55k and the best value for both parties always arrived at around 3-4years irrespective of most mileage unless above 30k pa when the lease co's would hike the price and often want to go no more than 3. Think this is the same with PCP's but with far lower mileages c10k pa, with over miles and return condition being a major potential for running up extra charges.
