I have made a specific point of this verbally with Admiral (previous) and NFU (current.)

Both have said that I did not need to declare factory fit options provided the insured value was sufficient. They did want to know about after-market accessories (there weren't any)

It was Admiral who put my premium up for the moonroof. Greater risk apparently. I can recall if it was security or rollover.

A client of mine got a stone chip in the panoramic roof on his Evoque. No idea how it happened, but luckily for him, his insurer paid out. Couple of thousand pounds I think. That kind of episode might explain the extra premium charged by some insurers for a car with a pano roof...

It was Admiral that asked me to to declare everything. Things like coloured door handles come through as 'exterior modifications (cosmetic)' or something like that. Probably just depends on who you speak to on the phone, and what they decide to do.

That’s Admiral’s policy - to require you declare any extras above base specification. And it’s also the main reason I won’t insure with them.

My thought is that if an insurer doesn’t understand my car and how it is sold at quote time then I will have real problems should I need to claim. I always find an insurer who rates based on my invoice and all fixes can be handled by an OPC.
