I would expect GTS to be announced in January and on sale by April. There is certainly demand for a model between the S and the Turbo, especially with the SD axed. Another factor is that kitting-out the Turbo with a decent spec easily takes you to £75K+.

I hope they give the GTS a slightly de-tuned 2.9 litre V6 (same unit as Turbo) with 390-400 bhp. This would make it the sweet spot in the range, especially if it comes in under £70K with a good spec.

The gap between S and Turbo has increased in the refreshed line up:

S = increased from 340 PS to 354 PS
Turbo = increased from 400 PS to 440 PS
Gap between S and Turbo = increased from 60 PS to 86 PS

So plenty of gap for a refreshed GTS. The existing one was 360 PS, so at least 380 PS will be likely. Bear in mind the GTS is significantly more than a few extra horses on the existing S engine. It gets a significant increase to torque, and this increase is available much earlier. Porsche also assumes GTS customers are less bothered about emissions and economy - which is why these figures tend to be rubbish on these models.
Prospective owners may be less worried about emissions and economy but GTS's still have to pass WLTP and the cars sold count to VW Audi groups total emissions tests. Unless new suitable engine can be developed which suits other vehicles in VW/Audi group I can see a new GTS being more suspension changes and more sporting extra standard fitments.

I think you will find that most manufacturers, including Porsche are looking to reduce the number of models that they build, not add to the list!

If so, Audi, BMW and Mercedes are not making a very good job of it.

^^^ Very true. The trend seems to be to find a niche within a niche within a niche! ;)

Spoke to a dealer who said the new Macan GTS won't sound as good as the existing one. He said the same about the Turbo, although there's two reasons for that. Firstly 'downsizing' from a 3.6 to 2.9 engine, however the main reason being the new particulate filter. Gone are the pops and crackles associated with the older cars.

Believe that WLTP standards also limit noise emissions (so I was told) no idea if it’s true but sounds feasible

If I was a betting man I would put money on the GTS being announced very soon. Like in the next couple of weeks, just a hunch ;)

I'm intrigued. What information generates such a hunch? :)
