Pre-facelift GTS still a winner?
Just been through the same dilemma myself. My Mar 2017 GTS has 14,000 miles on the clock and wondered if I should change it. Test drove a new Macan turbo at the weekend. Lovely car but couldn’t help thinking it wasn’t different enough to justify spending..... and losing in depreciation..... the additional cash. Also, as I am coming up to retirement the next car has to be a keeper. So it looks as though I will keep the GTS a little longer then sell both the GTS and the 997 in order to replace with a new Polo GTi and a more up to date 911....... choices, choices......

With so few miles on the current car (less than 5k per year) you’re using it relatively little and the overall difference between a 2017 and 2020 facelift model is going to be small. What’s the cost of the change bearing in mind that as well as depreciation the WLTP taxation changes have increased the amount to be paid and what other uses do you have for the money ? If it was me I’d keep the current car. If you want driving thrills look at buying an additional different type of car if you have the space to keep it. I really enjoy driving my S but for day to day running around locally I use the (electric) i3 which is great fun in a completely different way.

Thanks Rigger, choices, choices but seems you have a very wise strategy.Rigger wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 7:41 am Just been through the same dilemma myself. Yep you are right about the the revised tax. Imo, it is completely disproportionate and unfair on hard working, car enthusiasts with aspiration to drive modern, luxury, premium cars....without a power cable!SmallWheels wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 8:54 am With so few miles on the current car (less than 5k per year) you’re using it relatively little and the overall difference between a 2017 and 2020 facelift model is going to be small. This is one of the very few cases of enquiries on the forum about changing your car actually saved you moneyJBA wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 12:30 am Great insights, wisdom and thoughts from all. Thank you.
One of the main reasons for considering selling my mk1 was to cash in on the equity of a one-owner , low mileage car to finance a mk2. However I am now erring on keeping the mk1 and will keep ypu posted if things change.
I am very grateful to this forum and members' comments so thanks again all.
