I suppose it was inevitable, but it’s a shame to see most buttons replaced by touchscreens and touch-sensitive controls under shiny black plastic. :(

I had this for a year in my 2017 Panamera 4, but I prefer the traditional & tactile buttons in my Macan and 911s.

When will they realise that screens, whether tactile or not, are intrinsically less safe than butons? A screen requires a long look to locate the screen, area of the screen and then complete the adjustment. There is a reason aircraft glass cockpits are for information and physical switches process functions. Added to that FL30 is arguably safer than the centre of Preston or the M40..................

Long live the 'button'.

Several years ago, my friend had a Mercedes which required a replacement Comand system. Mercedes quoted nearly 3K and this at a time when interactive systems did a fraction of what they do now.

Fortunately, his car was still under warranty.

I wouldn't like to think, let alone pay, the cost for a similar system now.

Here I am! . Deffo agree safety issues of screens already mentioned. And when will Porsche get the message that all that black plastic is so noughties? To say nothing about how difficult to keep clean and scratch free.

^^^ Agree, Nick. And trying to make shiny, easily scratched black plastic ‘classy’ by referring to it as ‘Piano Black’ finish or similar. Horrific for showing up dust!

Having had a Cayenne Coupe loan car for a month, I can assure you that with a month’s greasy finger marks all over the black glass/plastic switches etc it looked very classy when I returned it!! I deffo won’t be buy a new Macan with that set up.

I had a cayenne couple on loan as well. The heating controls worked ok on the move...but yes, after 5 minutes it looked a mess. Surely it must be the marketing dept. forcing this 'piano black' look and not the designers?

I saw a YouTube vid of Magnus Walker testing a new carrera s which had a great spec....looked like it had some wood on the dash like the old 911's...can you believe that?!!
