So where does the news and weather app pull its information from?
My maps have been updated to the 2020 version also.
Sorry to sound dumb, but I am still unclear on all this!
If I buy the Three 2 year data card do I install this instead of the inbeded sim and then does this give me everything?

I know I would have found this useful to have in one place!

This is for a March 2017 gen 1 turbo with £800! Connect+ option

The £107.50 I mentioned above, was the (joke) labour charge to simply move Connect+ to me from original owner.

Connect+ gives you for free:

Apple® CarPlay including Siri® voice recognition software, enabling you to use the apps of your iPhone® even when
you’re on the move
LTE telephone module with SIM card reader for simplified access to telephone functions on the move and optimised
voice quality during calls
Porsche Connect app for transferring navigation destinations from your smartphone to the vehicle, for displaying
calendar events in your smartphone on PCM and for streaming music via Internet radio or music apps
Smartphone compartment in centre console for optimised reception and battery-saving operation (still yet to understand if this works just by putting phone in compartment, or if you need to plug into USB)

Other Connect+ features which require the £119 "Navigation and Infotainment Services" (after free 2 years) to work. These work via the internal SIM in the car.
Real-time traffic information with live indication of current traffic situation by green, yellow and red colour markings
and featuring dynamic route recalculation
GOOGLE® Earth and GOOGLE® Street View for visualising routes and places by means of 360° views and satellite
imagery
Online updates to satnav maps (limited to a certain number of regions per year, eg Southern UK is one region

Other Connect+ features which require a data SIM in the slot or using your smart phone as a hotspot (not internal SIM):
Wireless Internet access for use of WiFi-enabled client devices, e.g. tablets, laptops or smartphones inside the vehicle

Vodafone Telematics / remote serivces - another £99 per year
In conjunction with Porsche Car Connect app (not the Porsche Connect app, yet another one, so thats 3 apps including My Porsche app))
The app allows you to check on car remotely (provided you are not parked in my underground car park!)
Location of car
Beep horn or flash lights
Fold mirrors
Tells you if locked, not sure if you can lock if its not, I havent been able to
Fuel gauge / Tyre pressures
Geofence - set speed and area, assume it warns if exceeded

Vodafone Safety and Security - yet another £235 per year
Tracker services

you can buy both Vodafone services and save about £65
Very good summary Adam. Only bit I’d add is that data can come via the embedded Sim if you take it direct from Porsche. You probably wouldn’t as it’s expensive compared with using your own data Sim but Porsche did run an offer of free data for about a year so that was the best option at the time.

The Navigation and Information services come over the air using the mobile networks via the embedded Sim. You can install your own Sim (the embedded Sim continues providing nav and info services) to create a WiFi hotspot in the car for data, streaming etc. Yes, this gives you everything!

You are not dumb, the Porsche setup is.

News weather etc is in the £119, can’t edit original post now

You only need the SIM in the slot if you want to set up the car wifi zone. To be honest most phones are speedier than the car so I won’t bother when my card runs out.

The navigation infotainment is probably worth it for me this year to update to the 2020 satnav maps but these days Waze is better and I am not sure google maps are very clear to read vs standard

Can you also update the maps via WiFi, IE, parked in my driveway picking up the house WiFi? That way no need for a SIM card.

Probably still a bit dumb.

I haven't paid any £119 to Porsche, car says no data available, my phone data is off yet I have updated news and weather....so being dumb, still can't understand how it's getting updated🤔🤔

I do wonder if this is the case, could be picking up the house WiFi as I leave....through the phone.
All very confusing Mr Porsche.

Maybe still in the free 2 year period

Have a look on My Porsche (on PC not phone) and it will tell you what services you have.

This bit is relatively simple. The built-in Sim does the news weather Nav data etc. as long as that package has an active subscription, i.e within 1st two years of activation or subsequent sub paid for the car. The electronics only allows it to be used for streaming or providing in-car wifi if a separate data package is purchased. Hence when you try to use it for that purpose it says no data available if no additional data package has been bought

This is similar to some mobile contracts giving free data use for set purposes but a purchased data allowance being used for other purposes
