I’m looking at getting a Macan with 21” wheels, but previously had an RS4 with low profile tyres, and got two major punctures from potholes around London. I’m not very keen to go there again.
Have people experienced that with Macans on 21”? I don’t think the profile is as low as RS4 so hopefully it’s less of a problem.
Thanks
Punctures with 21” wheels?
I've got 21" wheels. Had mine from new March 2016 and I've had 3 punctures in that time, which for me is a lot. I put it down to the tyres being very low profile and not very forgiving. They're not quite RS4 profile but they are 265/40 and 295/35. The guys at my tyre place hate changing them because "they're a right bastard".James61 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 12:55 pm I’m looking at getting a Macan with 21” wheels, but previously had an RS4 with low profile tyres, and got two major punctures from potholes around London. Anything rides better than a B8 RS4 particularly in dynamic mode !
Still miss the sound of that engine despite still being spoilt with my current fleet

I'd have the RS4 engine in the Macan any day. I liked the keyless entry too. However the Macan rides and steers better and is a much nicer car to be in. And agreed - I only ever tried the RS in Dynamic mode a few times. Clarkson wrote a great article about how bad the ride was.

If you want to avoid tyre and wheel damage stick to a maximum of 20". If looks are more important to you than function, and it is for many members on here, then you'll go for the 21's. You'll probably get less issues than the Audi low profiles even so.James61 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 12:55 pm I’m looking at getting a Macan with 21” wheels, but previously had an RS4 with low profile tyres, and got two major punctures from potholes around London. Thanks for the comments.
There are some great looking 20” wheels so I’ll probably stick with those and hopefully take any tyre issues out of the equation.
My RS4 was a B5, great feeling when the turbos kicked in, but to say the ride was firm doesn’t even get close!

I think 20" wheels are a great compromise and as you say, still some great looking wheels available.
Curbing is not such a problem either.
One of the reasons I went for the Macan was because of the state of our roads. RS4 etc are great on good roads.
