I used a different registration number for an identical car to get a Saga quote, which came out at £217.
Saga renewal quote was £340.
Just outrageous😡😡😡
Called them up and they matched the £217 and fixed for 3 years, but WHY do insurance companies do this?

Is the sum of £217 from Saga for insuring your Macan ? Or for one of your other cars?
Jurassic does not state what annual mileage he has told his insurer for the various vehicles which will have an impact on premiums.
Correct so many things set premiums👍
Over 60, garaged, low risk postcode, max NCB, and 5,000 miles on each car insurance.
Annoyance is renewal quote at £340 agreed finally at £217😡

I see such inflated renewal price 'scams' as a distinct advantage for those of us who can be bothered to check what is available elsewhere and then engage in negotiation. In effect, our insurance is being subsidized by the lazy or gullible. Long may it continue!

My exact thoughts.

When I used to negotiate 15% off buying a new BMW I would be very grateful to those who walked in & paid the full asking price - for funding my discount ;)

Bloody hell, I'm 61, car garaged, 8k pa, 15years NCD and Saga take £470 off me? And they were the cheapest!

These were the range of quotes from Meerkat, Saga didn't even come up in the £500 range. I would probably gone with LV if Saga hadn't played ball.

You’re fortunate to have such a low premium on a Macan.

In the past I’ve experienced similar premium difference, this time with MoreThan and not on a Macan. On two occasions the quote from Money Supermarket was much lower than my MoreThan renewal cost but at least they honoured it. These days I’m with LV.

Also experienced the same when renewing my electricity/gas with Scottish Power. The tariffs via Money Supermarket were much lower than the tariffs Scottish Power offered me.

Saga refused to even give me a quote! I' m 67 with a Macan S driving less than 6,000 miles a year, and lives in the countryside. No ides why they wouldn't even consider me.

TBH, they have pissed me off recently. Lost my Dad to Covid, so we were left with his car. My Mom (83) has never driven, so after informing them, they gave us 7 days cover, then refused the standard practice of selling us 4 weeks cover (for £125), so I could sell it, even though my Mom (as sole executor and beneficiary) was prepared to say that the car was now mine. I'm lucky enough to have spare garage space to lock it in, but imagine if the car was street parked, with no option to lock away. It would now be illegally parked! As a Company that trades on being "oldie friendly", they have a few gaps in their systems to address?
