Hi guys,

Just returned from a few days away in the macan and with four on board got to thinking what if the worst happened and I had a puncture?

What do I do fit a collapseable spare and put the suspect punctured wheel on someones lap or strap it on my roof bars?

Bit of a conundrum im in,,

Any ideas guys?

Out of interest how much of the boot space do you estimate it would the tyre need, 30%? maybe similar for front and rear?.

Hi Jon
Leave one of the kids at the side of the road?!
That's why I didn't bother speccing it - OK if haven't got a full car, but otherwise, where do you put it?
Had just a can of foam in the Boxster for nearly 8 yrs and 57,000 and never used it (touch wood!)

I assume that the child's mother isn't one of the four occupants!, perhaps leave the mother in law at a near by hotel!

If I'm right, using the foam = new tyre, no arguments. I didn't fancy that. I spend too much time on the road at night to wait 4 hours for recovery and then what? Taken home to get a mobile tyre repair company to fix it at some extortional rate the next day, or taken to a tyre fitter (who might well be closed) and get a cab home. No thanks!

I have the 18" optional spare. Swopping should take 20min max, as long as I can get the nuts off. Not sure what happens to the collapsible spare once you have used it though. Dealer said bring it to them and they would repack it if they could.

Any one have any experience of this?

As long as you also have a suitable jack and wheel brace to go along with the purchased collapsable spare.

When we had Boxster if i recall correctly there was also a bag to put the faulty wheel in so the passenger could have it on their knee if required.

Thanks guys half of you are as mad as I,, unfortunately it was the wife, I ,and two teenagers I did think to toss a coin on who got the wheel on there lap,,

So if I do buy a colapsable spare do I need 19" as its going on a turbo eventually. ?

Ive gone about twenty years without a serious punture event but I do like a back up plan rather than the AA

Thanks guys
I assume if its collapseable then when its full of air its not going to fit in the boot well, so theres no chance of a full size wheel going in the boot and with four of us the boot was full and no vision out of rear window! jonmacan2014-12-29 13:32:57

Jonmacan, only the 18" will fit unless you opt for the carbon break discs in which case only the 19"s work.

thanks nosmo ,,

Thats great as the 18" is 80bucks less,, fab nearly a tank of fuel.. result..

But are we still left with the problem of the inflated spare not fitting in the wheel well, even when its deflated ?

I manage to get 4 x 18" wheels and tyres into my Freelander with the rear seats down or 2 with the seats up.
Why can't you put some luggage on the knee of the back seat passengers and put your 1 x 19 or 20" wheel in the back.
Surely it is not that cramped in the rear of the macan, from what I have seen it should fit easy.
I have always had a spare wheel but have never used one for the last 20 years !!
