I have a oil change warning but is one necessary after 3500 miles/15 months from new? My previous Macan Gen1, which I had from new, didn’t have this requirement as far as I remember.

I emailed Porsche Hatfield and also asked whether the oil change was mandated for the warranty. Not had a reply, so I thought I'd ask here before calling them.

Thanks

The oil change requirement is influenced by how you use the car. My GTS has only done 2300 miles since last August but is still showing 17,000 miles to oil change. Mind you It has only done journeys in excess of 30 miles every time it's started. If your 3,500 miles is made up of short journeys then contaminants build up and the car reports the need for an oil change.

Sorry but I don't know the answer to your warranty question.

My 2019 "gen2 S" arrived with a C30 engine oil sticker in the engine bay and the 1st oil service indicator of 2years and 20000 miles. I did about 10K in 1st year and MFD was still showing service due at 19000 miles or March 2021.

Typically in the last 12 months and before, I have been avoiding very short trips and ensuring if the car started from cold it completes a full warm up cycle to oil temp about 90 deg C and a few miles past, typically 30 to 40 mile. By the time oil service was due timewise, it was still showing mileage-wise 5000 to a total of 19000

My Macan S had its 1st service about 10 days ago at 14000 miles after less use due to lockdowns in the last 12 months. This included 2-year inspections, oil change and brake fluid change.
The Portsmouth OPC used C20 0W-20 w oil and after service, the MFD is showing 10500 miles and March 2022, 12 months ( not 24 as when car new) to next oil change. I suspect but do not know for definite what has caused this Porsche change but suspect it may be connected with the move to C20 from C30 oil ( but they left the C30 engine bay oil sticker in place!!)

As I am happy with changing oil every 12 months after about 10 k miles, I have not raised the issue with Portsmouth but will be interested to hear what reply Hatfield give to your question.

I agree with what On track is saying about contaminants generating shorter oil service intervals if the vehicle regularly not fully warmed after a cold start

i am with pmg, and have my oil and filter changed every 10,000 miles, small price to pay to help the engine and turbo last longer.

Thanks all.
I spoke to Porsche Hatfield:
"The Gen 2 Macan requires an Oil Change after approx. 12 months. This is due to new technology and the maintenance of the new
Petrol Particulate filter. Warranty guidelines would advise this is carried out."
So I've booked it in for next week.

My 2019 Macan S also required oil after about 15 months and 7k miles. Seems pretty normal for average use. I’m about to go for the 24 month service, I suspect they will change the oil again even though it’s only now at 10k miles and 9 months since it was changed (ooch £££) . It’s almost as if it would be better with an 18 month service interval as standard which also line up with the 3 year warranty.

Further update; I did 1st long run /trip post lockdown today of 225 miles. mileage to oil change risen to 18500 and date moved by a year to 3/2023. so why are some OPC's talking about yearly oil changes for Gen 2 petrol Macans with PPF's? (rhetorical to quote Blackadder)

Mine is saying oil change in October 2021 (roughly a year after I bought it from OPC who did a service as part of the deal).

I wonder if I take it out on a few long runs post lockdown whether that’ll push it out too. I’d rather the car adjusts it based on use than be fixed at 12 months.

I had the same query after c.6k miles. Just got it done in line with the schedule however.
