Any recommendations on a person/company that can check out and assess the car from a private seller in near east London or Essex?
2) how to make payment to the seller? Is direct bank transfer ok?

You tell him the car you want and the amount you want to pay. He negotiates with the vendor. You pay him plus a commission. and he will pay the vendor on collection.Neil1911 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 11:23 amHow do you involve a broker in a private sale?Bluesnose1812 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 11:22 amI would go via a broker. I did this on a BMW and he negotiated a £500 discount which covered his commission. (though I thought at the time that he probably got more off, but I was happy with the price I paid)

Private seller doesn’t want any diagnostic equipment to be used on the car. I assume a technical inspection sill require diagnostics as so much of the car is electronics now. Should it concern me that no diagnostics are allowed?

That's neat, a new one on me, for the benefit of the OP, where does one find a broker?Bluesnose1812 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 11:32 amYou tell him the car you want and the amount you want to pay. Google "Car Negotiation" . I cannot recommend any that come up. But I am happy to give the details of who I used to the OP if he PMs me.Neil1911 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 12:05 pmThat's neat, a new one on me, for the benefit of the OP, where does one find a broker?Bluesnose1812 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 11:32 amYou tell him the car you want and the amount you want to pay. Seller is telling me it’s not normal to run diagnostics!?! But had agreed to let me take the car to his independent service garage and let the diagnostics run supervised by them.. perhaps he is worried someone will mess with the settings on his car?

An oxymoron if ever there was. Walk Away. It doesn't matter how good or cheap it is. Another will come along.Boxster2Macan wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 12:43 pm Seller is telling me it’s not normal to run diagnostics!?! But had agreed to let me take the car to his independent service garage......
