As the standard Macan has what is called Engine Function Sport Button, would I be correct in thinking the car is either in comport mode (if not activated) or otherwise a more sporty mode when activated.
Thus reading the PASM description - electronically variable active damping system with 3 modes
Comfort, Sport and Sport plus.
Does this mean that the difference is PASM has the sport plus as the extra, or are there additional technical differences as well.
The manual also says when a car is driven off road or assertively in a manner that demands hard acceleration or braking ...PASM intervenes.....

If you don't have PASM, the "Sport" button won't change the ride at all. It will only affect the engine and gearbox.

If you do have PASM, the "Sport" button makes the same changes to the engine but in addition selects PASM Sport setting for the suspension as a shortcut. However, you can then manually select comfort or Sport Plus PASM modes if desired with the PASM button.

PASM is supposed to work all the time whatever mode it is in, adjusting the damping of each wheel individually to improve the ride and reduce roll and dive etc.

So, whatever the actual stiffness of the standard, non-PASM suspension is, it will not provide the same body control characteristics as PASM even when PASM is set to a similar stiffness.
