Hi Guys,

I recently had a problem trying to reverse out of a parking slot steeply downhill. I engaged R applied some power and released the park brake. The car rolled forward toward a wall. I applied the brake with my left foot then applied power. the revs went up to about 2500 then fell back no matter how much I pressed the go pedal (a bit like launch control). I then eased off the footbrake and the car shot back. Very embarrassing.

Any tips for future use most welcome.

Thanks

After engaging reverse, apply throttle and then wait until you feel the car pulling against the brakes before releasing the parking brake.

I had exactly the same problem in the early days with my SD. Even took it back to the OPC but (of course) couldn't replicate the fault with a technician in the car. Just got into the habit of reversing down that particular steep driveway. Funnily enough, after the transfer box was renewed (nearly two years later) the problem disappeared.

I can’t remember (so long since I’ve needed to do it) but in a situation like that - can’t you just go into reverse and increase throttle until car automatically disengages parking brake + then be ready to apply foot brake if going backwards too smartly!

From memory I think pressing the Off Road button may help.
