Here's a link to a BBC News article - "Why it's the end of the road for petrol stations."

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-57416829

How will we ICE car drivers cope, 10 + years from now, when the majority of cars are electric, and there are fewer and fewer petrol stations remaining ?

Yes, I had seen this article and can see fewer petrol stations becoming an issue as the years go on.

It is already difficult to find 98 or 99 octanes in some parts of our country areas like Mid Wales north of Scotland. Advance planning can sometimes been needed and Tesco Momentum has been useful.

The timing of my switch to EV will be decided by the balance of loss of petrol stations to the provision of fast chargers in rural areas

I don't think ICE's are dead yet, or even in 10 years time. Bio-fuel is in relative early development and will likely take over from petrol/diesel eventually. Battery tech is still very much in it's infancy too, but it will take many, many years for it to be developed to be as 'convenient' as liquid fuel. With so many millions of ICE vehicles being sold through to 2035 in the UK, petrol stations have a decent lifespan yet IMHO.

+1 to all what’s been said. The only problem with fewer petrol stations is, as they start to lessen, the price of the product I can envisage increasing.

With the number of ICE cars on the road still going up l doubt there are many on this forum who will be around, let alone driving, to be greatly affected! I do like to hit a cheerie note 😁

Unfortunately   I was thinking the same thing.

Scotland, which has had loads of stations close over the years now appears to be getting new unmanned stations.

We've had two brand new Shell stations open in the last two years.
BP took over and completely redeveloped a Texaco site. All are within a 4-mile radius of each other in our rural area. There are also five established ones - supermarket sites (three) with pumps, plus a Texaco and an Apple - within that circle too. All eight are on A-roads.

One has an LPG pump(?) and another has a commercial AdBlue pump.

None have EV charge facilities though.

Agree, just think that within the given timeframe fuel cell powered EV’s will come into play. Filling stations will be adapted and converted for fast efficient filling, no need for trailing cables across pavements and overnight charging. EV car prices will tumble and for a while a new trade in EV conversions will flurry as Early EV adopters will be left like Betamax Man.

The above is a very real possibility, especially if the much mooted solid state battery does not materialise
