What I did notice was that the 2.0 base version seems fine in gentle wafty traffic, but if you want to go a bit more quickly it has to work very hard - the gearbox drops several gears and the revs increase to 5-6K, and it sounds like it's working hard. In comparison, my 3.0 S is much more relaxed when pushed. I'm glad I chose the car.
My GTS will imitate the dropping several gears and revving to 5-6K but I can't post the speed it's doing after a few seconds (fifth amendment to the American Constitution and all that )

I recall seeing the theory expounded over many years in the Telegraph's Honest John column that smaller engine does not necessarily mean greater fuel economy. It takes X amount of energy to shift two tons of car from rest to 60mph, which equates to N litres of fuel, the engine used to convert petrol to motion is not THAT important. 3ltr taking it easy or a 2ltr working furiously. OK, its not a perfect comparison, weight difference and potentially unequal friction, amongst other things but the manner of driving probably the critical factor!

Well it must have been at 3 in the morning . No other time or space to drink that amount of juice on uk roads.
Just like to add my 2 penneth on fuel economy as I have just got the base gen 3 with its increased fuel rail pressure, power and torque. I attach 2 recent readouts for a 220 mile each way to and from Cornwall. Overall to date I am achieving 32.5 mpg. When it gets to 2000 miles I will increase revs as per running in advice and see the impact on economy. Are others seeing similar figures?
39mpg? Not even in my wildest dreams! Seen 31 on the display part way through a trip but by the time I get up the hill to Sheffield it's inevitably back to 20 something.

Now there's a challenge!
A chap called Paul, who used to be a regular contributor on here, shared a photo of his dashboard showing, I think, an average of 70mpg for a certain journey, albeit down a mountain, as I recall!
