Steady A road driving and making use of coast mode, versus using acc or cruise on the motorway should be more e.conomical. Trouble is so many a roads have so many fluctuating speeds , someone has an accident and all of a sudden we have another 40/50mph zone when it’s been NSL for 20+ years

May need some tips as to how you are getting 34mpg - unless something has changed between gen2 GTS and gen3 S.

You are never going to beat physics to get a high mpg. Just for reference, my S5 will do 36mpg. Ave speed 68 on a run. And that's with E10 fuel. Same engine but lighter weight better drag co ef. My Turbo PP gets nowhere near that .

I've had my GTS for just under sixteen months. I'm one of those people who only ever fill the tank to the brim and then record tank to tank mileages. So far, best has been 31mpg and worst 26mpg (rounded to nearest whole figure). Always drive with enjoyment in mind not fuel consumption. What's the point in owning a car that's the best overtaker I've ever owned and driving it like Miss Daisy?

My 2017 petrol S is in for service today, and the OPC lent me a 2.0 base. I've only driven it about 50 miles, but it seems to be doing around 25mpg, whereas my 3.0 S routinely does about 23mpg. So the base 2.0 isn't a significantly more economical version.

What I did notice was that the 2.0 base version seems fine in gentle wafty traffic, but if you want to go a bit more quickly it has to work very hard - the gearbox drops several gears and the revs increase to 5-6K, and it sounds like it's working hard. In comparison, my 3.0 S is much more relaxed when pushed. I'm glad I chose the car.

My GTS will imitate the dropping several gears and revving to 5-6K but I can't post the speed it's doing after a few seconds (fifth amendment to the American Constitution and all that   )
