Why does the US get the base GTS for £5K less than the UK?

Shipping costs must be more expensive, or is it because our models are right hand drive?

Sales taxes ???

Anyway, Porsche will price for what the market will take not the cost of making and supplying the vehicle

They aren't reckoned to be the most profitable car company in the world for nothing.

The cars in the States have nearly always been cheaper than in the UK or Europe. That goes for any make.
I remember while in Australia in 1980, a Ford RS2000 which I bought new in UK was nearly half the cost of what I paid some three years earlier. Despite having to be shipped half way around the world.
It’s the market and what the manufacturers can get away with.

In the UK, the price is inclusive of VAT.

In the US, it's exclusive of sales tax, which varies state by state, or even county by county. Some are 0%, some are 9%

There's always talk on which US dealers sell at MSRP, which mark-up above MSRP and which offer discounts...a totally different, and I find confusing!, market. There seem to be many more cars sold "off the lot" too

As said, US has always been cheap for cars and fuel etc.. Cars used to be half price of here and fill up with petrol for 10$.

Huge country I suppose....

Simply what the market will support. Cars and many other items much cheaper in North America. Eg Apple products are the same price in £ vs $ despite the $1 is worth 72p today.

Used to be true in Europe. Remember the trade in car imports in the 80s. I bought a Golf GTi UK spec new from Germany for 75% of the UK cost

Thanks for the replies.

I didn't think about the different sales taxes that apply throughout the world, and this reminded me that some years ago, someone told me that in Denmark they had something like a 100% tax rate on new cars.
So, I just looked at the base cost of a Macan GTS in Danish Króna and this equates to just under £192K

Their vehicle tax rates are calculated on a scale and can be up to 150% of the vehicle value over a certain limit.

Back in the 90 I bought two Audi A3s from a dealer in Dublin where they had 35% odd VAT on new cars compared to 15 or 17% here. The exchange rate was good too pre euro.
Drove them both for a year and still sold for a profit!
The second on had chromed alloys that were never sold in the UK and looked really leary!
