Porsche slow to BEV Macan
My mate's BMW i3 with range extending motor seems the answer but I think the've stopped making them.

They have and they are somewhat aesthetically challenging to my eyes. I'd have an i8 in a heartbeat, but I believe they've stopped making them too.

Can't argue there but I do value function over form, nearly, every time.

The range extending engines got used so little BMW had a lot of warranty claims for them seizing and hence they stopped production.

Having bought an i8 two years after it came out I would say it is not the answer although it is an overengineered masterpiece that nobody in their right mind would try to copy.OmniCognateSnr wrote: ↑Thu Oct 07, 2021 12:37 pm They have and they are somewhat aesthetically challenging to my eyes. I am seriously looking at a used 120Ah i3 in a couple of years because it is similarly over engineered but without the hybrid compromises that the i8 had. Some of the infotainment tech will be very dated but nobody will ever build such a pure solution ever again (in much the same way as the Audi A2).

I was seriously thinking about buying an i8 as a second car until I eventually sat in one. I thought the interior was a disaster and was never convinced about the hybrid drivetrain.New User wrote: ↑Thu Oct 07, 2021 6:24 pmHaving bought an i8 two years after it came out I would say it is not the answer although it is an overengineered masterpiece that nobody in their right mind would try to copy.OmniCognateSnr wrote: ↑Thu Oct 07, 2021 12:37 pm They have and they are somewhat aesthetically challenging to my eyes. I've often thought about an i3 too as a runabout, but my Mrs really hates them for no good reason. I probably would have bought one otherwise.
This is interesting (if you can put up with Shmee). Not sure if anyone already posted it:
General take aways seem to be:
1. Charging points in Europe are a lot better than the UK
2. Charging points are not conveniently located, even in Europe
3. Charging in Europe not much cheaper than using petrol
4. EV's seem to work but require quite a bit of forward planning.
5. The Tycan is insanely fast!

Has been posted before, at least a couple of times, usually accompanied by “I can’t stand Shmee, but...”.

apparently the Taycan has now outsold the 911 and, perhaps more surprisingly, the Tesla S. I guess if the S is the same price most people would chose the Porsche over the Tesla
