... so how does all the black unpainted plastic look compared to when its painted gloss black, less plasticy? Trying to follow your thought process here ...PorscheMack wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 1:12 pm One concern about painted sideblades is do they look a bit plasticy? Also thought I read somewhere on here that Dolomite had a dark undercoat and therefore would show up chips more than a darker colour

Can’t comment on chips but would imagine it’s the same as all light comments

Whether the sideblades are unpainted plastic, or painted plastic, they are still made from plastic and therefore plasticy

My thought process is very clear as the Standard Black SB's are a matt finish so probably won't look as plasticy as gloss painted plastic. Clearly plastic is plastic but I'm not a fan of sb's so easy for me to find fault in them.mueslibrown wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 2:23 pm... so how does all the black unpainted plastic look compared to when its painted gloss black, less plasticy? Rightly or wrongly, I think the sideblades are a deliberate design feature of the Macan (as they are purely aesthetic & perform no other function as such) so my preference, were I to buy another Macan, would be to have the sideblades in a contrasting colour to the rest of the bodywork, so they stand out, as I think the original design intended.

On gen 3 it seems to be a textured ‘carbon’ style plastic for the side blades.mueslibrown wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 2:23 pm... so how does all the black unpainted plastic look compared to when its painted gloss black, less plasticy? To me they are the brain child of someone in the Marketing team who said "Let's stick a long plastic bar along the bottom of each door and call it a Sideblade. Then offer the punters the choice of a different finish, colour etc.. and charge them accordingly!" I think even if SB's were a no cost option few people would choose them. Furthermore, I reckon if Porsche stuck a house brick on the bonnet and called it a "Star Ship Slayer Module" they would get away with it!!

We know they are made of plastic, same as the entire front grill.Wing Commander wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 2:47 pmPorscheMack wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 1:12 pm One concern about painted sideblades is do they look a bit plasticy?

But once painted the blades don’t look plasticy

On the previous Gen2 GTS the painted sideblades were a no cost option as opposed to a £400 plus option on the S or base.PorscheMack wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 3:48 pm To me they are the brain child of someone in the Marketing team who said "Let's stick a long plastic bar along the bottom of each door and call it a Sideblade. I think the black side blades do compliment the lighter colours but like the painted too.
