Had a quote for purchase and full installation on my Macan £999.00. I think that's quite expensive, but if you want an extended warranty, a non-Porsche dash cam & installation might become a reason for Porsche to decline !

Depends what you are after. Plenty out there that just stick to the windscreen and plug into a power output. As long as you are ok with visible wires they can be removed in seconds and Porsche will be none the wiser. Must say £1000 for a dashcam is an insane price.

Is having one ever going to save you £1,000?

Yes, it could. If you're involved in an accident that wasn't your fault, but you had no independent witnesses because the other party holds you at fault. Your claim might then be settled on a 50-50 basis. And your NCD hit, even if protected. And then your following years insurances are more expensive....

That's an insane price. I'm not convinced that fitting your own dashcam can legitimately invalidate a warranty. It's a bit like saying that if you fit a non-Porsche child seat, the warranty is invalidated. Wouldn't stand up to legal scrutiny.

I have a Nextbase 422GW, self-installed, very easy to wire it in to the passenger side fusebox, and total cost around £150. The dashcam was in place when my car was last serviced, at which time I bought the extended warranty (and paid an insane amount for the required squillion-point check). As it was there when they agreed to sell the warranty, I can claim that it was acceptable.

A pal of mine had his recently purchased Golf GTD smacked up in a crash for cash scam, in a part of Birmingham notorious for the event. It was obvious to all involved and the Police even said, if you'd had a dash cam, it more than likely wouldn't have even happened?

Had a call from my OPC today, next week there will be a promotion introductory offer for the Porsche dash cam £795 for camera and fully fitted compared to rrp £880. Not a bargain but I’m going to get it. Will get some back in part through cheaper car insurance and also provide protection from these crash for cash scams which sadly appear to be happening more nowadays.

looks a bit big in that video. Would be interesting to see how distracting it is in real life. If the price were right I’d probably consider it myself though. Post some pictures and feedback once you have it. Would be interested in your feedback.

Given this is a front facing camera only, I wouldn’t bother. It will not capture impacts from behind, so £800 for half a job imho.
