The dealer has asked me for a copy of the signed retention document in order to assign my plate.
Do I need to sign only the section as per the image?
Assigning Private Plate to Vehicle....
I don't really think it matters because you can assign a plate online without a signature - the dealer actually just needs a copy of the certificate so that he can use the serial or reference number. Probably he wants a signature just for his own audit trail.
I recently sold a plate, and simply sent a copy of the unsigned retention certificate. I then shredded the original.

I certainly didn’t. They asked me to email a copy, which I did, and then I asked if they needed the original and they said no. Having said that my car won’t available for a month or so yet.
I did this with my previous car too but that was a few years ago and sadly I’ve reached the point in my life where my memory has a very short shelf life.

If you own the Retention Certificate then you are the Grantee.
